okay here's what I want you to imagine, Jack. Milagro's finally reached Kindergarten, and she's finally made her first friends! A gaggle of girls wind up coming over to the Reyes house, and everything's fine underneath his mother's watchful eye; he can mostly stay in his room while the girls hog the TV. EASY PEASY.

but then there's some sort of emergency at the garage, and up comes his mother saying, mijo, can't you watch them for just fifteen minutes? I'll be right back

and young Jaime takes a duty like looking after a bunch of munchkins Very Seriously, because it was bestowed upon him from the greatest authority, and how hard could it be? He's very aware that he doesn't want to be the angry older brother to scare off his baby sister's first friends, so he lets them outside to play dress-up with the plethora of outfits that his mother will never wear again (she is a nurse, and is relegated to runners and comfy clothing for 99% of her life, tyvm) and everything's fine, except for the fact that he wasn't aware that it's not just milagro

all little girls are actually demons who are very, very good at looking cute and innocent, who will take a mile when given an inch, and he winds up sort of desperately sitting there as the girls have their way with him instead. this is how the entire neighborhood saw a preteen jaime with stubby little braids in his hair, lipstick smashed up against his cheek, and a feathered boa around his shoulders.

(he only managed to get them back in line after one of them cut off a chunk of his hair. you'd better be grateful, milagro.)

What sorts of things will make Jaime totally lose his cool?

It never used to take so much, but since Jaime got an evil bug in his ear telling him to kill things whenever he gets worked up, he's settled on a steely, enforced sort of calm to counteract all the... murder.......

It takes the usual superhero crap, to be honest -- don't touch his friends, don't touch his family, and don't treat human lives with negligence and disrespect. He'll get pissed off if anyone suggests that the friends he holds in high esteem aren't good people at their core (or his hero TED KORD), or if someone talks about Khaji Da like he's an object rather than a person. That's anger -- turn a camera on him or throw him into public speaking if you want him to lose his cool out of sheer anxiety, do something exceedingly nice for him and he'll get all choked up, and plenty to do with sex flusters him, tbh.

He'll lose his cool a lot more in action-oriented circumstances than when just chatting, most of the time. You have a nuclear bomb strapped to your bomb and raring to go, you learn to cool your shit! Wally is his only friend that has made him get angry, and that took him pushing and prodding him on a personal level for some time before the boom.

so we all know jaime is basically the most understanding person ever but

what are some things that really irritates him or at least occasionally makes him go arghhhhh about his friends?

OH there's plenty! A lot of it has to do with their avoidance tactics, tbh -- Shinji shuts down conversations, Wally reacts in unpredictably explosive ways that Jaime finds tiring to deal with, Bart just puts on his happy-go-lucky face which everyone knows is a lie... and little things, like not picking up after themselves when they come over, or getting all up in his personal space when he's not feeling it. It's mostly stuff that he accepts, but he's gotten mad at Wally a few times, and called Bart out on it more than once.

HE ALSO REALLY HATES SELF DEFEATISM and taking on general failures as personal failures, but he tends to talk that out with people too. BASICALLY he can be sort of a serious dude sometimes, and when other people don't take things seriously, he's liable to just cut to the chase about it! A lot of the things that upset him are things that are out of his control, though, so he winds up just trying to help them work through it instead of being like YOU! YOU'RE DEPRESSED!!! I HATE THAT, CUT THAT OUT!!!!
