QUIT RUNNING IN THE HOUSE

TEST DRIVE MEME
Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!

Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!

And remember to have fun!

    01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.

    02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.

    03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!

    04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

Some might have used the word regimented to describe Joan. Carrie had certainly used that word when she was at her shortest fuse. It was the more harsh version of 'like clockwork'. It was a trait that Joan had found useful in her work as a sober companion. She kept track of meetings, days sober and client pitfalls in her mental filing system, quite easily.

That was, perhaps, why the fuzziness of her memory caused her great irritation. The frown that's seated on her face only deepens at the soldiers, sours at the blue light and climaxes in a full-blown rejection at the Florida sun. Nope.

She gathers her hair at the base of her neck, and then drops her hands to her side. She didn't show tension in fidgeting, but instead, stillness.

Long before her work with Sherlock, Joan was accustomed to sirens and blood, but the context was what had kept her nerves (and occasionally stomach) settled. The wail of the police sirens catches her ears first and she automatically places the direction, eyes falling on the hovercar that's barreling down the road.

Second, those kids. Joan doesn't move on instinct -- she moves because she's considering the alternatives. She doesn't enter the road, just moving close enough, but snaps a sharp order to the kids Get out of the way! in a tone that had been honed in the hospital and could bring certain previously mostly impervious egos to a dead halt.

In a show of poor judgment on the part of the universe, cars obey the laws of thermodynamics rather than the law of Joan Watson. But her warning is just in time for the kids to look up and scatter. The car barrels forward another fifty feet before it slams into a web-net strung between two lampposts. The webbing stretches to its limits, but holds, and the car drops to the ground with a loud clunk.

After Spider-Man's checked on the driver-- a commuter who reports brake problems and is effusive with relief that no one was harmed-- and turns them over to the police, he saunters over to intercept Joan.

"That was quick thinking back there," he says. "Those kids probably owe you their lives."

The universe clearly needs to re-aligned its priorities, to be quite honest. She breathes a sigh of relief when the kids scatter and then a huff of annoyance as the car continues upon its way. The web-net is a surprise and not only because it looks not particularly structurally sound, but it does its job so she can't do more than give it a passing glance of disapproval.

All of that reporting and policing she watched, arms crossed, but choosing not to involve herself. The relationship she had had with the NYPD was far different than what was here, and if it was already in hand there was no need for another cook in the kitchen.

"Only if they learn something." She brushes off the compliment, but it's also the truth. Kids were so careless. "And. . . the web. Would that be your quick thinking?" The slight pause is only mild disbelief, instead of disapproval, he's in her good graces for his part in the save.

"You see another guy standing around here in his webbed jammies? Spider-Man, at your service." He sketches a bow in her direction.

"You never know, he might have been going for subtle." Her tone of voice isn't very jovial, but the joke is there. She quirks an eyebrow at his bow but returns the introduction. "Joan Watson."
