QUIT RUNNING IN THE HOUSE

TEST DRIVE MEME
Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!

Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!

And remember to have fun!

    01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.

    02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.

    03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!

    04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

Jack Crawford · Hannibal · 1 / 3

[personal profile] mentorships 2014-03-22 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
1

Jack Crawford is not a man who finds himself prone to hallucinations, to lapses of time, to moments where he loses himself—it's not something that he would say he would pride himself on. Not exactly. But the fact of the matter is that it's an inherent truth of his existence. Some part of him is inexplicably normal, even with all his instincts and even with the fact that his job requires him to engage with some ... abnormal things.

It is for this reason that he is almost too stunned to react to the circumstances of being brought here. The shift of lights. The sudden people in uniform. The digital marking on his wrist that claims he's a hero.

Jack pants a laugh as he processes it. What was he doing last night? Sitting in a hospital at Bella's side. He turns toward the first person nearest him and makes sure his wrist is bare for the other person to see. "I've gotta say, I'm shocked I've finally woke up with one of these so late in life."

3

After getting the information about Heropa and having to accept a new position—as well as a set of powers that he would have never asked for—Jack finds himself needing to adapt. If he's going to be useful at all, he's going to have to do that first. They want him to investigate. And why wouldn't they? But a man's not any good at something like that when he doesn't even know the world itself.

Right now, Jack finds himself in front of a bunch of stores with displays of some of their ... toys. Of course, some of these are actual toy displays: skateboards, overly realistic dolls, and everything in-between. But others are just technology. It's advanced according to what he knows, but he doesn't want things being advanced to get a leg up on him.

Problem is, he doesn't even know where to begin.

"Weird, aren't they? The -- well, I suppose you'd call them dolls." Said a soft drawl, coming up behind Jack Crawford. He had noticed the stern body language, the stance of authority, and he had slithered over to make chat. Networking had always helped him before, even if such wasn't his initial aim this beaming day. In fact, Chilton's initial goal was far more material: he was shopping for tie pins that might (possibly) be self-shining; the concept had occurred to him late last night. Wouldn't that save a lot of time? Surely some inventive individual had already endeavored the patent.

"I'm not really sure what age would be recommended, however, they seem more corpse-like with that kind of flesh. Though I suppose there's a market for -- Oh my god, Jack Crawford!"

Chilton, having gotten close enough to see the man's face, suddenly regretted alluding to any kind of necrophilia -- in a professional context only, of course.

2 No. No. The first time, she brushes them off. The second time, she reacts angrily. By the third time some idiot local appears, Rosalind simply disappears-- taking a deliberate step into space/time and reappears atop a roof, grimacing as she does. God, but she hates people.

3 She stares, but it is not an astonished staring. Floating cars and pretty digital advertisements are nothing after you've made a city float, after all. No, Rosalind merely stares curiously, taking notes in a small paper pad. The scientific method behind such things is of interest, after all, even if she isn't particularly impressed by it.

Meanwhile, Rochelle was starstruck by everything around her. From the first time in weeks, she was somewhere almost normal. With people. Real, healthy people. And given where she came from, calling a city far from normal normal was saying something. But despite a thorough cleanup, Rochelle was wrapped in bandages on much of her body - not nearly as normal. To be honest, she didn't think she would ever be. But right this second? It didn't mean shit.

The producer stepped next to Rosalind. She looked up at the skyscrapers above, fingers held up to shield her eyes from the light. She grinned and glanced at the other woman.

"You're not from here either, I take it."

World Famous Reporter, Tintin, is at the local maltshop, living any young boy's dream. As the Belgian teen digs into a banana split, he and his white wire fox terrier, Snowy, are sharing a conversation. No. Really. As it said in the file, that those generous government people had given him, his beloved companion can finally talk. And, what a talker he was!

"Snowy, if you finish your vanilla cone too soon, I won't be asking the waiter for another."

"Wooah," the little dog, who was at his companion's feet, simply licks his lips and insists, "well, then, I'll be asking the waiter for another myself!"

This seventeen year-old wasn't the type to fight with his dearest friend; he just smiles, and wonders if he should ever tire of this. No, he thinks. He won't.

Ben and May Parker raised Peter better than to go around eavesdropping on total strangers, at least when he wasn't dressed in spandex and crawling around some dusty warehouse or high-tech supervillain lair. But there's eavesdropping, and then there's passing someone's table just in time to hear him talking to his dog-- and, unusually, to hear the dog answering back.

Okay, so it's not quite as strange as Howard the Duck, but it's still worth a raised eyebrow or two.

"Let me guess," he offers, "you're new in town, right? Both of you."

Yes indeedy!

Kate Spencer (Manhunter) | DC Comics

[personal profile] deathsentence 2014-03-22 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
2 | as Kate Spencer

Wow, it's like dealing with the fucking paps, only in her recent experience, she hasn't seen any of them. Gotham has its press and its journalists that like to push things too far, but they're nothing like what you see prancing around Los Angeles. The fact that she finds herself as the center of attention because she's a—as the handy tattoo says—registered hero is new. Hell, she doesn't even need to wear a costume to get their eye, and she isn't taking care of somebody in a nightclub after a concert to meet the flashing lights.

Of course, there aren't any cameras here, not really. There's just people wishing they could take a picture with one of the recent imPorts.

As much as it is like dealing with the paps, she finds it calmer, more pleasant. It's easier to soak it up, even if a part of her finds it all ridiculous. The truth is, as far as she can see, that they've made a spectacle of them to keep them under control. It's a handy way to keep an eye on heroes, on people who come in, and the people here are just eating it up. Kate's fairly certain that her unorthodox methods won't be welcome here.

Then again, maybe they won't be needed.

Either way, she's going to gladly go grab herself a malt. The whole attention thing might be a backhanded perk, but she'll take the ones that are nice while she can. Kate just hopes that it isn't drugged or something. That would really mess all of this up.

4 | Manhunter

"Hey, kids—!" she shouts from her perch. Stopping car chases isn't really her duty, not when there are cops on it, but whoever's driving that vehicle is definitely a monster of some kind. The fact that he's barreling on toward those boys makes her think of when she learned about Ramsey's condition, of the different powers he has. Problem is, she's ninety-five percent certain that kids like that just don't exist here. None of the papers talk about metas at all.

That is, unless they're referring to the imPorts.

But either way, Ramsey was a freak case, one that was a result of an interesting combination of luck, so Kate isn't really going to bet on these kids having the same luck, of being the first set of metas in a world that's otherwise a stranger to it. She grabs her staff and fires it up when a second passes and the kids haven't reacted, and she darts down there to shove them out of the way. It wasn't the most methodical way of handling it, and she just barely rolls out of the way before the car flies by with the two cops in hot pursuit.

"That could've gone better," she murmurs, but at least the kids are chattering from the other side of the street ... happily.

Oh, that's great. Well, at least she's a hero.

Robin only just stops his swing when he seems someone else barrel into the road. He has to stare for a second - that took some nerve - before he grins. The anger, flaring bright and hot in his chest, has mostly faded; the kids are safe, and that asshole won't get far with the cops on his butt.

He considers, for a second, before swinging downward. He hasn't worked much with the other heroes, and he doesn't really want to start, but he should make sure she's all right.

Joan Watson • Elementary | 1, 4

[personal profile] soberingcompanion 2014-03-22 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
1

Some might have used the word regimented to describe Joan. Carrie had certainly used that word when she was at her shortest fuse. It was the more harsh version of 'like clockwork'. It was a trait that Joan had found useful in her work as a sober companion. She kept track of meetings, days sober and client pitfalls in her mental filing system, quite easily.

That was, perhaps, why the fuzziness of her memory caused her great irritation. The frown that's seated on her face only deepens at the soldiers, sours at the blue light and climaxes in a full-blown rejection at the Florida sun. Nope.

She gathers her hair at the base of her neck, and then drops her hands to her side. She didn't show tension in fidgeting, but instead, stillness.

4

Long before her work with Sherlock, Joan was accustomed to sirens and blood, but the context was what had kept her nerves (and occasionally stomach) settled. The wail of the police sirens catches her ears first and she automatically places the direction, eyes falling on the hovercar that's barreling down the road.

Second, those kids. Joan doesn't move on instinct -- she moves because she's considering the alternatives. She doesn't enter the road, just moving close enough, but snaps a sharp order to the kids Get out of the way! in a tone that had been honed in the hospital and could bring certain previously mostly impervious egos to a dead halt.

In a show of poor judgment on the part of the universe, cars obey the laws of thermodynamics rather than the law of Joan Watson. But her warning is just in time for the kids to look up and scatter. The car barrels forward another fifty feet before it slams into a web-net strung between two lampposts. The webbing stretches to its limits, but holds, and the car drops to the ground with a loud clunk.

After Spider-Man's checked on the driver-- a commuter who reports brake problems and is effusive with relief that no one was harmed-- and turns them over to the police, he saunters over to intercept Joan.

"That was quick thinking back there," he says. "Those kids probably owe you their lives."

khajidont: (Jaime - what is on that computer screen)

Jaime Reyes (Blue Beetle) | DC Comcis | 1/3

1

When he first started his gig as a superhero, Jaime had figured that given time, he would eventually get used to strange things happening to him and would be able to take even the oddest of circumstances in stride. Unfortunately, he was quickly finding out that this was not the case, because all of this? Was not in the job description. There's absolutely no way that all of this doesn't spell out some seriously bad news, because for all the courtesy they've been shown, he's not inclined to feel kindly towards anyone who has whisked him away from where he ought to be.

"This isn't creepy at all," he says, rubbing at the tattoo with his thumb. It's clearly not making any difference whatsoever, but nobody could ever accuse him of a lack of tenacity. Then, as an aside to himself, he mutters, "A tattoo. Mom's gonna kill me."

3

It's not that Jaime's forgotten that he doesn't want to be here, but he's finding it distinctly difficult to focus on it when coming face to face with a bunch of hover cars. If his goal is to blend in - or at least to not look like he's just arrived - he's doing a piss poor job of it. He stands by the curb and gawks at the cars whizzing past, privately wondering why they decided to go for such an old-school aesthetic when they've clearly gone beyond the technology of the 20th century.

In the back of his mind, the Scarab notes that such technology isn't that advanced by its standards (and by proxy, Jaime's standards), but he ignores it. He would be in a sad state indeed if he couldn't at least appreciate the novelty of flying cars and skateboards of all things.

This was some straight up Back to the Future kind of crazy going on here, and Marco can't tell if he loves it or hates it. Principle alone says he should probably hate it.

It was still freaking cool!

He doesn't have many saving graces outside of catching on to the fact he's gaping as much as this other guy right nearby, closing his mouth with a snap and pulling his lips up into a grin. No, alright, more of a smirk, but really, who'd begrudge him that?

"Might want to pick up your jaw from the sidewalk before you start catching hoverboards with your mouth." Marco aimed to hit a jesting note, managing the mark by and large. He was on edge, but that made it all the more important to joke it off, at his own expense or those of others. In this case, a mix of both. "Trust me, it hurts like you wouldn't believe! You new here?"

She doesn't remember anything. It's an eerie sensation, having no idea where you are or how you got there. That tattoo on her wrist makes her wince, and the blazing sunlight, even more so. "Hey--" She sounds confused, and she'll reach out lightly to touch the closest person's shoulder with her fingertips.

"Do you know what's going on?"

If their face is as blank as hers is right now, she does her best to summon up a smile. "Well, let's focus on getting some information then. You aren't hurt, are you?"

2

Her thighs, more often than not, seem to be the topic of discussion from most passerbys. It's a little embarrassing, honestly, but with some coaxing, she'll be persuaded to show off some of her fancier kicks. The cheers from the crowd is enough to get a big grin on her face. She has to admit, this is all strange and weird, but she doesn't think the citizens here are involved.

If this is a city that needs her help, to boot... it's going to be extremely difficult for her to say no. Free malts don't hurt anything either, and she'll be patrolling the carnival with open curiosity.

But Sally Jupiter was an ally, or she had been. It made him wish to linger, and watch.

02 Khalid, no Doctor Fate, had arrived in full costume. The gold helmet on his head was as clean and obvious as anything among the crowd, and black and gold were a rather striking combo. However dealing with people like this, it's entirely new and it hadn't taken him long to try and escape notice by taking to the skies. Teleporting somewhere probably wouldn't work, or if it did he'd end up somewhere he'd be lost in, so that was right out.

Instead after taking to the sky he heads for the local malt shop, and yes, that's one (1) costumed hero walking into the malt shop. At least it's not like he's not human or anything, right?

03 The entire ordeal is odd, the tattoo is new and yet it's not war torn so Khalid, after changing his appearance to street clothes, set out to look for a bag for the gold helmet he had come in wearing. Which means trying to wander his way through the streets with a gold helmet tucked under one arm, occasionally stopping to look at the windows. While the technology isn't that far fetched an idea to him after seeing Apokolips tech, it's still new and different and he can't help but stop and stare at it once in a while.

All the while of course, keeping both hands on the helmet of course.

Tintin, world-renowned reporter, and his dog were having a surprisingly enlightening conversation about spirituality, when tall, dark, and helmeted came in.

Snowy, his adorable little wire fox terrier, immediately forgets his ice cream cone and whatever it was he was telling his dear friend about God and animals' beliefs to revert back to his primal instincts and bark at this strange thing, until it went away. "WOAH! WOAAH! WOOAAH!"

"Snowy," the teenage Belgian sighs, as he turns to the gentleman. "I'm terribly sorry about this." After a pause, he adds, "I think it's the helmet that's frightening him. I like it, though."

Kenny can't say he isn't used to public adoration, at least while in costume. Despite the fact that he was clearly only ten years old, everyone in South Park had seemed really hung up on his mis-adventures, so the public excitement in this new city isn't entirely surprising - just a little weird. He never got a chance to read many comic books (just the ones other kids would loan him), but he didn't remember any issue where dark and mysterious masked crusaders were accosted by gleeful fans for photographs. He tried to look as menacing as possible in each shot, but he was a little relived when he found a soda shop to duck into. It was still buzzing with people, sure, but they seemed more interested in their own business.

Despite the fact that his pockets were incredibly empty, he climbed up onto a bar stool, let out a sigh, and gazed down the line. There were other lost-looking people around, some costumed and some not. Maybe they were imPorts, too.

4
It's easy for Mysterion to see where this is going. He's only barely gotten used to hovercars, but he knows they're no less a threat than the normal ones back home. Hell, maybe they're worse. It's dark out, so it's hard to see if anyone else is already coming to the rescue, but it doesn't matter. Even if he doesn't have any kind of super speed, if he acts now, he can at least get the kids out of the way, even if he doesn't see a way to get himself out of the line of fire.

He dies so often it's practically routine now. That hasn't changed here, either - he just tends to get up faster here than he did at home.

Mysterion dives into the street, managing to get an arm around one of the kids (they're not really younger than him, actually) and get out a shout of "Out of the street!" to the other, who's thankfully fast enough to jump out of harm's way. Kenny pushes the kid he grabbed onto away as hard as he can before landing sharply in the street. The first car hits him, hard, but death isn't instantaneous (because that would just be too easy). He lives long enough to see, through intense pain, the cop cars swerving to bypass his crumpled body - swerving right into the kids he'd just tried to save.

Kenny hopes to god someone else is passing by, because he really doesn't want to come back to life to a couple of dead kids.

Well--! This was a very interesting sight! Tintin, the reporter, and his dog, Snowy, were also at this malt shop, feasting on some complimentary ice creams. Snowy, feeling so social with his newfound gift of gab, trots a doggish little trot to the ten year old and says, "Hey. Short, dark, and mysterious. If you tell these guys you're new, you get free ice cream."

2. Seeing people milling around some guy in an unfamiliar costume looking for pictures like he's some kind of mascot at Disneyland is a reminder to Luke why he dropped the costume bit years ago. That and the place who made the shirts stopped making them ages ago. He doesn't even want to think about the tiara. Moving through the crowd left relatively alone, he constantly finds himself looking down at the spot on his arm where they marked him. Each time he looks, he feels the desire to level someone or something.

Sure, he was pissed about being whisked away from his family, any father worth a damn would be, but he could've taken that in stride. With friends like Doc Strange, it comes with the territory. He could've even gotten behind the whole 'we need your help' shtick....if they hadn't put this damned tattoo on him, practically branding him. He'd fought too long and too hard against registration to just let this go.

Looking up ahead, he sees a place offering free drinks. Doesn't look like they serve the kind of drink he really wants, but he needs something to cool his head so he can think. He'll just put it on Uncle Alternate Reality Sam's tab.

OMG HI I DON'T THINK THERE ARE WORDS FOR MY EXCITEMENT

[personal profile] notdaredevil 2014-03-23 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
The moment he caught the sound of a familiar pulse, just in passing, Matt knew he'd be throwing all his plans for the rest of the day straight out the window. Because he'd know that heartbeat anywhere. They might not always be the closest of friends, or always see eye to eye, but there are few people Matt would be happier to figuratively see right now, and Luke Cage is definitely on that short list.

He's had cause to think about Luke a lot lately; it's hard, not to consider this whole registration business, and not come up with what happened to his friends and allies as a result of it. Danny went to prison because he was pretending to be Daredevil. Maya had been stranded in Japan. They'd uprooted Luke and Jessica's entire life. To him, if nothing else, these would be compelling arguments to throw in with their side, even without all the ethical and legal violations of the entire act...if he'd felt as though he could. If his life had allowed it to, or if he hadn't been making excuses, trying to leave them out of his collateral damage, or...but it doesn't really matter now. He's here, and he's made his position clear this time around. Drew the lines and set up for the long haul.

They haven't talked for awhile, though. That gives Matt some need to consider for a moment just how to approach him, and what to say. Luke's anger is screamingly obvious to his heightened senses, the compulsive way he keeps looking at the spot where Matt knows the tattoo must be. He sympathizes, and has no desire to make it worse, but it's hard for him to just pretend that everything is all right and normal. Well, normal for them.

It only takes a moment, before he gets up from his coffee and crosses the street, to catch up.

"Luke. Mind having company, if you're going for shakes?"

It's almost casual. It would be, if they weren't meeting again under such potentially grim, grave circumstances, because to everyone who's lived through this before in some capacity or other, the severity of what they might all be in for can't be ignored or denied.

[Nonon, being a performer, is very much used to attention. Lots of people attended the concerts held at Honnouji Academy. Whether or not this was under threat of death is unknown, but the fact is one cannot deny that she is indeed a skilled musician and conductor. So having people literally swarming around her for pictures and the like? Well, let's just say she's more than happy to put on a show for them. Being dressed for the occasion certainly helps. And the best part? Music is currently blaring from Symphony Regalia MK II's speakers.

Yeah, she's making a spectacle of herself. Alternatively, she could be wearing something a bit more normal at the malt shop drinking her free drink.]

[4]

[If you asked literally anyone who knew her (aside from maybe Satsuki) to describe Nonon Jakuzure, chances are very high that the word "jerk" (or other similar words) would come up. However, that being said, she was hardly a heartless person. Naturally she pushes those kids out of the way!

...and once they're out of the way, those two police cars won't have to worry about catching the speeding driver. The last thing they'll hear before having their wheels blasted off by well placed sonic blasts is...a portion of the William Tell Overture: Finale? Whatever. At least she stopped the car before it crashed.]

redstreak: (overdose)

Ryuko Matoi | KILL la KILL | 2 & 4

[personal profile] redstreak 2014-03-23 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
2

At least her time at Honnouji Academy's made her used to people talking about her. Ryuko's not a chatty girl even in her better moods, and right now - separated from everybody she cares about and chafing under some government tattoo, the hell is this, Honnouji all over again? - she isn't at all in the best of moods.

She is, however, leaning on the countertop at the malt shop, sucking down her second milkshake. The first they'd given away for free, which was pretty sweet of them, but one just hadn't been enough to settle her down all the way. The Scissor Sword - miniaturized, of course - lays on the table in easy reach. When she reaches the end of the milkshake, there's the annoying sound of her sucking the very last of the whipped cream out, and then she sets the glass back down on the counter.

After a moment, she slides the scissor back where it belongs, and slides off the stool to her feet. "Is there anything to do around here that ain't 'get mobbed by my adoring public'?"

She looks down at her collar, and Senketsu - who, for all that it sometimes felt like he never shut up, has been pretty quiet in the shop since they figured out how powers worked around here - finally speaks up.

"Is this not a positive change of atmosphere, Ryuko?"

Ryuko makes a face at her uniform.

4

Ryuko's initial reaction to the zooming car is instant - "oh, shit!" snapped at the top of her lungs as her sneakers hit pavement. Stupid assholes with no idea how to drive without killing anybody should keep off the damn road, in her opinion.

"Get outta the way!" she calls, reaching for the handle of the blade in her glove and twisting it, tossing it. She glitters as Senketsu tightens, shrinks. She's long past embarrassment about the way she looks in her Godrobe as she leaps not for the kids, but for the car, sword extending. Will she manage to cleave it in half without slaughtering and/or exploding the occupants? Who knows, but she's damn well going to try. Unless someone else has a better idea.

At first he just thought there was some obnoxious local who didn't know any better making a ton of noise. The slurping sound coming through her straw is grating as hell, and he almost feels like going over to ""talk"" some sense into them, but he's nobody's superior here. People likely wouldn't take well to that kind of attitude where he can't do what he wants thanks to being Satsuki's loyal monkey.

But then he hears her voice and it all makes sense. That is an obnoxious person! And it's one he recognizes too. He slides out of a booth some way down the aisle of the malt shop and turns in Ryuko's direction, calling out to her.

"Oi! Matoi!"

There's only like a 1% chance it isn't her, so he says it without any hesitation.

[She's still relatively new to this whole Robin thing, at least when it comes to actually getting out and seeing people, since she's still on probation. And anyway, even when she does get to go out and actually fight crime instead of training forever in the cave, she's mostly met with a lot of who they hell are you? if people actually look away from Batman for long enough. Occasionally there's a little girl who gets super excited about seeing a girl as Robin, so that makes all the other bullshit worth it, but that's still nothing compared to the reception she's getting now.

It's a little unnerving, but also a little awesome, when people ask her name and then ask for a picture with her. She wonders if she should say no, but she can't help but get swept up in it, in people calling her a hero and seeming so excited to meet her. She's going to figure out what the hell is going on here and find a way to get home, but until then maybe it's okay if Robin enjoys the attention for just a little while.]

→ 3 (civvies)

[Hoverboards.

Regardless of her new powers, she's still a little unsure about using them, but taking advantage of awesome technology is something she's a lot more comfortable with. She doesn't actually buy a hoverboard, but dressed in civvies she can blend in a little better, and manages to talk a kid into loaning her one for a little while, so long as she stays in the park.

It's pretty much the coolest thing ever.

She gets the hang of it relatively quickly, although that might be a bit hard to tell considering how reckless she's being with it, zipping around as quickly as she can make the board go and turning corners way too tightly. It's just so much fun, though at least she's careful about not running into people.

Eventually, she tries something just a little too tricky, and ends up flat on her back while the hoverboard floats nearby, having come to a halt once she spun out. But she's laughing, so she's probably not too badly hurt.]

You dropped this. [ Yes, that is a big, red demon with cloven hooves, a tail and horns filed down to stumps standing over her. He holds the borrowed hoverboard in a giant fist that looks to be made of stone, which is probably not among his greatest of ideas. ] Do they have licenses for these? Cuz I think you need one.

[ If he sounds grumpy, well, that's just the way he is. Hellboy's more worried about the harm she could cause herself than anything she could do to him. Even with a hoverboard. ]

Crematia | Dragonlance: The Lost Histories

[personal profile] mercyisweakness 2014-03-23 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
1

[Crematia roars, spittle flying out of her jaws, canines bared in a most terrible rage suited for the most entitled and cruel of creatures. Her threats are like rusted daggers - suited for not for lethal strikes, but for the most dragged out of pains. It is terrible to behold, Crematia's anger, for it's proper use is militaristic, designed to destroy enemies and sow fear into future generations so no one can stand up to her. Magnificent in her power, even, if she is in her true form, red in scales and claws like swords, teeth capable of smashing armor to splinters and fire that can melt stone.

However, she is not a dragon, so she is a simple woman in red with equally flaming red hair, screaming incoherently at the officer. Another officer reaches out to hold the woman's shoulder, but this further to enrage her, and she spins around and slaps the officer - except she's fighting as a dragon, so she isn't so much of trying to slap the man as so much as trying to rip his face off with her dragon claws; resulting in a man who had thin, angry-red scratch marks diagonally across his face.

Cue the resulting pile on by nearby military officers trying to subdue a clearly hysterical imPort trying to shrug off the piling bodies on top of her, while Crematia screams. ]

2

[ It takes a while for Crematia to calm down (but to never forget the humiliation, never forget, for she thrives on hatred) and to rationalize, to understand. What she knows: this is not home, there is no Abyss, there is no Queen Mother. No metallic dragons, but also no chromatics. She brayed and called and not one responded. There are no dragons here.

But she can still conquer this world. She is Crematia, the Scarlet Daughter of the Dark Queen Takhisis, and Crematia will rule here for her stead.

She smiled. It is a smirking, charming smile but a hallow one. The sea breeze picks up, making her long red dress fluttering in the breeze, showing more skin on her legs. Some local fool pointed out a malt shop for a free drink and she nods idly, taking the proffered alcoholic drink.

(It takes Crematia a while to learn how to open a can of beer. Ask her about it and suffer.)

But Crematia grows bored and she finds the nearest imPort she can find. ]

You.

[ Her tone books no argument when she addresses you. ]

How long have you been here?

[ Josh Boyfriend is an average human. He is of average height and average build with normal hair and normal eyes. He is on Earth, which is also normal. Except that it isn't his Earth and that is unusual considering what the average human experience consists of. He has been told that he is a hero, and is still debating if that label is accurate.

Josh Boyfriend, despite having all main characteristics of being The Leading Man, just wants to be left alone.

No, this isn't the direction he wanted to take his script in at all. Thundercracker alternates between staring at his very human hands and the wall of TVs that remind him more of Cybertron than of the technology level he's come to associate with humans. And even though he's lived on the planet for years, he feels awkward in this new fleshy body. Being human was never something that occurred to him.

Movies and television surprisingly didn't prepare him for this situation in the slightest. And he'd know, he's seen most of Earth's entertainment over the years.

But there's a solution for this unease. He's going to go away. He's going to go away and not bother anyone and find another dog. And work on his screenplay.
]

I need at least three-- I don't suppose they're going to be showing any reruns. [ A pause. ] Does this Earth have Netflix?

[ Thundercracker - asking the important questions. ]

00
[ It's very hard to look inconspicuous when you're a blue F-22, but Thundercracker is trying. Currently he's sitting in an empty lot, just. Sitting there.

Someone could probably come up and touch it, although they'd have to get a ladder to get into the cockpit and fly it. But that's always an option for the more adventurous.

[ Gil ceases his stroll to glance adjacently at the other man who is either posing a question to thin air or is genuinely seeking an answer from whoever can grant him one. Unfortunately for Thundercracker, Gil's not familiar with Netflix, nor does he use the Internet as much as the average person. Learning your way around technology is hard when you're from some pseudo-Victorian era world. ]

Net... flicks? I'm sorry?

Flash Thompson [Agent Venom] / Marvel 616

[personal profile] symbionic 2014-03-23 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
2.
[He can't admit to being Venom.

There are all sorts of reasons why not. The first being the possibility of danger to his family, even though Flash can't find any evidence that they're here. Certainly not here in Florida, anyway, maybe even in this universe. The second is the symbiote itself. It's dangerous. He's still not sure he can keep it entirely under his control- it fights, all the time. It'll give him what he wants, but it always wants to go further, take more than he wants to allow it. The fewer people know it's here, in him, the better. The fewer people will come looking for it, and the less danger they'll be in. It's too dangerous for it to be in other people's hands (he tells himself.) The more people he can protect from it, the better. And it's safer for him, in general, for them not to know. Safer for anyone who might just even be standing near him.

He can't admit to being Venom.

But at the same time, he can't resist every request for pictures, shaking anybody's hand who wants to ask, like he's the star of the football field all over again and not a wounded veteran in a wheelchair with a life that's crashed and burned more than once. They don't even seem to care about the chair. He's the hero again, or they think he is (he is, but they can't know which one, not in which way) and god he's...missed this, he really has. Flash won't allow himself to think that it's sad, or pathetic. Anyone who wants to talk, he's glad to- he'll do everything he can to help, ma'am, absolutely, everybody can always find a way to do something.

And he will. But there's nothing wrong with taking this opportunity to talk to people, right? Connect with them?
]

4.

[Ok, so he can't be caught being Venom. Or at least allow an obvious connection to be drawn between Flash Thompson and Venom. But that's not going to stop him from going out and doing what heroes do, even if it's just hanging around on patrol waiting for something. Compared to New York- compared to Philly, even- this place is so damn quiet that it gets his adrenaline jumping just to hear the revving of an engine, and the approaching sirens.

The moment he sees the car careen around the corner he springs into action, a spray of web grabbing the two kids from behind and yanking them swiftly out of the way, into another swiftly prepared web for soft landing. Because he doesn't have time to catch them just right now, because he goes swinging right after the car, up and in the air and sending another blast just at the end of the street, trying to catch it neatly before it can go racing off any further.

It's not the best plan, and it's only by sheer good luck, good reflexes, and a Thompson Hail-Mary that the cops slam on their brakes in time to avoid getting into a collision, and he can get another two webs out in time to grab ahold of them before they can slam into the first one and the car they were trying to catch in the first place. But still, all and all, good work, right? The day is saved and all that.
]

Don't worry about the mess. [Called down to the cops, from where he's clinging to the side of an office building.] Those webs should dissolve in about an hour. It won't leave anything a car wash can't fix.

[And then, high on the adrenaline and dopamine, he jumps back down, across the street, down to a lamppost, back over to his web to set the two kids free with a:] Hey, don't forget to keep an eye out next time, ok?

[Yes, just your average superhero, folks, in black body armor with a giant spider across his chest housing a bloodthirsty alien symbiote. All-American as he can be, superhero patter down and everything. Maybe that was a little more Cap than Spidey at the end there, but sometimes clever, snarky lines are harder than they look. And still, either way, it feels good. It really does. Whatever's going on here, it doesn't change this, helping people and helping the city one little bit at a time. That's what Spider-Man would do.

Yeah, he's doing good. Maybe he can go find some muggers to scare straight now, or something.

[ He'd watched the guy operate -- obvious theme similar enough to Spider-Man, and that made him keep watching, the promise that the webs would dissolve was true, from what his scanners told him, and that was impressive.

Then again, from the way the guy looked, he reminded Tony of when Pete took on the black suit, and he knew what that meant.

Then again, having the SHRA database in your head meant you could pick up on what was probably giving the guy his powers. It was hard to pretend it was anything but but a symbiote.

The problem was that he didn't know who it was. Not Brock, definitely not Brock. That narrowed down the possibilities, didn't it?

He flew overhead, before landing with a heavy, metal crunch nearby, cement cracking under his boots, before he straightened, and started an approach, his hand waving.

[The technology of this world sure isn't as advanced as the Kree, you mean.

Noh-Varr's learned to be patient with humanity. They're still a puzzle to him, sometimes, but one he's come to appreciate and like quite a lot. One he thinks is well worth defending. And though it might be a challenge, sometimes, to deal with how primitive their technological developments can be, it's nothing he can't get around or can't compensate for with his ship. If he'd had his ship here, that is. He'll just resign himself from having to build anything he needs from real scratch now instead.

It puts him in mind of one of his favorite movies, though, the classic Back to the Future trilogy, as though it were the future that actually worked out and not the reality he's been living in. Complete with the hovering skateboards, and he's never had an opportunity to build one or see one before, but he knows what to do.
]

Hey, kid. Do you mind if I borrow that?

[He doesn't wait for an answer before he grabs the board out of the kids hands, jumping on with the kind of flexibility and grace you don't see in most ordinary humans. He's seen it before, in abstract; he knows exactly what he needs to do to grind out some sick moves. Grind down the bannister, use the momentum at the end to flip off, three complete 360 turns while he grabs some sweet air (that's the term, right? He's going to have to look it up) before he rights himself again and slides neatly to a stop, a mid-air snowboarder.]

Thank you. [He says to the astonished small children, his tone perfectly serious but his expression somehow both innocently thrilled, all at the same time.] I've always wanted to do that.

[If only Loki or someone had been here to instagram it.

If only he still had a team of friends to appreciate it.

...it was fun anyway, though.

Did you just steal some kid's skateboard?

[She saw the entire exchange, of course. Saw, and thus knows that Noh-Varr didn't show the social decency to wait for an answer before he acted out one of his fantasies. The very fact makes her frustrated; she's not charmed, she doesn't find it cut, it's literally none of that.

She's mostly just frustrated with him.

But Kate realizes that it's maybe not fair. Maybe that's too long to hold on to it.

Maybes don't keep her from staring him down as if he's made a criminal error. Maybes don't make her feel any differently about this.

Maybes don't change what happened, and how frustrated she is with herself that "what happened" is a problem because she still cares about him.

Yes, it's definitely better to be annoyed with him.]

Meeting stares from the general public is no new thing for Scott Summers, but smiles and good cheer he could get used to. Just... not on his morning run. He wears the visor as opposed to the shades when he runs because they sit more securely on his face, and he can't find his groove if half his mind is on not stumbling and accidentally vaporising a McDonald's. He might as well have scrawled 'IMPORT' across his forehead in black marker, however. People keep flagging him down like a cab to chat or to pose for a picture or to write him their number. It beats having garbage thrown at you - something that's happened to him on more than one occasion - he supposes, but so much for getting a sweat on.

His eye is drawn to the maltshop. Its aw shucksness sticks to his gosh golly like two aitches to an oh and the one-two-punch of its Grease deleted scene gravity well and his acute desire for refuge sucks him inside.

Mistake number two. He's quickly encircled at the counter. No free vanilla milkshake is ever truly free.

He shakes a few hands and takes a few selfies as graciously as he can, but he's never been much of a small-talker and any conversation is stilted at best. Someone asks him if they can try the visor on for size and reaches for it. He quickly steers their hand away from his face. "That really wouldn't be a good idea."

He'll be taking that rescue party now, noble stranger.

[personal profile] myownbestfriend 2014-03-23 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Noble strangers are in short supply, so Scott's going to have to settle for a sarcastic girlfriend. The locals are giving her plenty of space. Telepathy is good for that, or maybe it's just the palpable chill from that aristocratic demeanor of hers.

"Does our fearless leader need a hand with the ravening hordes of the welcoming committee?" Emma might have left Scott hanging longer if she hadn't missed him so much, but that's one more entry on the long list of things she'll never admit in public...and probably not in private, either, though generally what she's not saying in any particular instance is easy enough to read if one knows her well.

God, he'd better not be from after...everything.

[Fun with timelines: She's post-Divided We Stand, pre-Utopia.]

Kurt Wallander | Wallander

[personal profile] swedeandlow 2014-03-23 01:44 pm (UTC)(link)
1.

Kurt frowned, squinting against the bright light. The sun was too high, was the first thing he noticed. Even in summer, the sun didn't arc that high in Sweden. He barely even notices when the woman starts talking to him, though he lets himself be ushered with the rest of the group, confused enough to be compliant. Something incredibly strange was happening. Kidnapping? Possible. But why kidnap a policeman from Ystad and take them so far away...?

"Sorry," He says to the nearest person, not even realising that he's not speaking Swedish, "But ah - where am I, exactly, I--" He cut off as he caught a glimpse of his own wrist, and frowned deeply. "What the hell--"

2.

Kurt Wallander is most decidedly not wearing a costume. Despite the last few days he hasn't really been able to believe any of this yet - still convinced that he'll turn around and it will end up being a candid camera show, or a very elaborate dream. Most of the locals ignore him - he is too rumpled, to sleepy-looking to be particularly flashy, and mostly he just wanders around in a daze.

At least it was warm.

"They prefer it when you're quiet," Says another voice, not far behind Wallander. It's deep, collected. The kind of voice you'd expect from someone who's more used to listening, not talking.

"Ask your questions later."

[There's a short red-haired man looking incredibly out of place amongst all the the heroes and the tourists. The placard he's holding proclaims THE END IS NIGH, and marks him as neither a tourist nor one of the heroes.

He keeps to himself, approaching no one but wandering the area and making sure everyone has a chance to read his sign and repent (unlikely. scum of the earth. too busy gorging themselves to care). He won't shy away if approached directly.]

your numbers and prompts make rorschach sick.
[It's the middle of the night and there's a man standing just out of brightness of a streetlight. He has a coat and hat on that obscure most of his features, and a mask which seems to be moving in the half light. Oh god, I think he's watching you.]

[Floyd Lawton is returning home, when he gets a look at this weirdo.

Huh.

For the hell of it, Floyd pulls out his own nearly featureless, white mask and puts it on; he gives a quick wave, and then moves on to a nearby convenience store for cigs.

It still didn't sit right. Creations of magical creatures were old news, just like the idea of multiple creations in general. But lounging in a variant of Yahweh's creation, specifically? She just wasn't a fan. Nothing specific, really. Just an itch under the skin, a slight discord in the universal flow that served as a reminder her she didn't belong.

But that didn't stop the free malt in her hand from tasting any less delicious. She'd used a little shock and awe magic, literal kid stuff, to impress a Back to the Future style hover board out of one of the local kids, and was taking a semi-leisurely tour of the city that way. Sitting on the board, legs hovering just a foot or so over the heads of the crowd below, sipping on her shake. It wasn't really the same as having a god's eye view, but that wasn't her job here, was it?

Still, it was hard no to notice others that shared her difference. She didn't need to see the tattoo, the auras of other imported just stood out like stars in the night sky for her. Deciding it was time for a break in the solo tour, she hovered above and slightly to the side of one such import making their way down the street below.

"Got a minute?"
foreshadower: Tony Harris. (I am a plain-dealing villain)

[personal profile] foreshadower 2014-03-23 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
This import in particular, stood out no matter what he did. It could have been the cane, or the top hat, or maybe it was the way he moved, something so languid, like he detested the act itself, but still the look on his face was forever-amused, like he had all the time in the world to get where he was going, and didn't intend to waste the opportunity for anything.

He turned his head, at the question, eyes darting behind purpled sunglasses, and he smiled, something that spoke clearly about his attitude about the whole thing -- or anything really.

He gestured, a gentle shrug. "I have several. You don't look lost, however."

Hey, lady, I think I did my hero time already. Besides, I think I'd remember registering.

[ he turns to the nearest person, aka you, and nudges u with his shoulder. ] Sheesh. Not even a welcome to freaky scifi summer camp? The nerve of these people.

[ he's frowning at the tattoo though, because that? that is super unnerving. even moreso than being herded like cattle and flying cars and shit. ]

I don't know about you, but my mom always told me not to ride in cars with strangers.

My manager keeps telling me that. [a pause as he spends a moment scratching his nose.] Both of them.

They usually point guns at me too so I remember to never ever get in cars with strange people.

[he smiles widely, big blue eyes looking even bigger thanks to a trick with makeup and his own rather good genetics. he laughs a little and waves a stuffed pink rabbit at the welcoming committee.]

You do know that if Rage finds you she'll jump up and down and more down on your car with her panda mecha, right?
