THE MISTLETOE MEME

It was a quiet moment in the imPort cities, when the next devious plot of an unknown organization was realized. With the holiday season upon all the town, bundles of mistletoe with interference technology hidden in the festive bows and pins holding them together was distributed throughout the town and into all the residences of the imPorts.
The interference technology creates a stasis field keeping imPorts trapped underneath it, protecting the mistletoe itself with a small barrier. However, it only seems able to hold two people at a time, and and the reaction of the nanites to sudden changes in chemistry brought on by embracing or kissing brings the stasis field crashing down, leaving the mistletoe vulnerable to destruction at that time.
It's up to you, imPorts, to break free of these mistletoe traps and destroy all the mistletoe in the cities!

I'd just like to say that this is not my fault.
I didn't summon that. This is something else.

[ A barrier producing plant is right out. Riiight out.
She frowns up at the mistletoe, considering fire. Of course she's considering fire. When is she not considering fire? ]
Should we be worried?

[ Though, not well. And not one that lasts, not like the swords. He doesn't have a great lot of use for them, in all fairness.
There's also a chance that he's stalling. He looks awkward. ]
It has to be magic. I can't actually -
[ He tries to move back, but of course he can't. Also, is he imagining this or is the mistletoe growing larger? ]
no subject
[ Important difference.
And referencing magic isn't the best way to stall, since Hawke just raises a knuckle to rap it against the barrier. ]
And no. I know magic. This is, oh, I don't know, a machine? [ She looks up at the mistletoe. Still considering fire, only she'll consider it out loud this time. ] I could throw something at it, but it might backfire and kill us. Very messily, I might add.
no subject
Could you please not, for all our sakes?! I didn't wake up with a death wish. That can't be our first port of call.
[ He will at this point try pulling a dagger out, to cut the mistletoe down. This works about as well as you'd expect, which is to say the dagger makes no indent on the stem. Instead, the leaves grow all the larger. ]
Well it's insistent, I'll give it that.

[ That's so rude! She wouldn't kill a friend! Most friends. Well, she wouldn't kill d'Artagnan, that's good enough. ]
So, verdict is... we're stuck. Which we knew, but now we know for absolutely certain.

You once tried to knock down the ceiling of an underground tunnel I was still in! Can you blame me for being cautious?!
It's mistletoe. It probably wants us to kiss, just for maximum embarrassment.
no subject
[ So offended! She knew what she was doing! The update about the mistletoe there, well, that's even more annoying, but not for the reasons d'Artagnan might assume. ]
What? That's all it wants? Why didn't you start by saying that? We'd already be out of here...
no subject
[ He had never exactly experienced that sort of magic before. It had been interesting, to say the least.
What she says next brings him up short. ]
What - really? I was trapped with - [ Dorian Gray. God, let's not talk about it. ] - someone else, earlier. I thought you'd protest.
no subject
[ It makes complaining about it obsolete!!!
Though, Maker, does she have to chuckle at poor d'Artagnan. ]
Then you'd think you would have known better than to stand under another one of these, but, no, why would I ever protest? It's just a kiss, not some kind of marriage proposal or anything dreadful like that.
no subject
Oh, for God's sake.
[ He eyes her, very uncomfortable. Kissing Hawke is not, in itself, an uncomfortable thing. No, in fact it's an altogether appealing thing, which is a large part of why he's uncomfortable.
She is, however, also right. He takes a breath. ]
Fine. Just - God, come here.
[ He reaches to pull her in, and kiss her firmly before he can change his mind about it. ]
no subject
Not that she can find any reason to complain.
It's also hard to find a reason to stop kissing him, up until she reminds herself, yes, hello, they're trapped. She'll be the one to break it off first, pulling away. ]
Well. Someone's had a lot of practice at that.
no subject
Actually not anything he wants to pull away from, which is definitely a bad thing. It's not remotely a surprise that Hawke is a good kisser. She's beautiful and strong and never lets him get away with anything, which typically is a wonderful combination.
There's a slight pause, until he drops his hand and flicks his eyes up to hers.
Right. They can move now.
Don't mind him just clearing his throat. ]
Some. Maybe. That was all right, actually.
[ He steps back, just to make sure the barrier is gone, and of course it is. ]
no subject
[ Oh, she'll act like she's taking mild offense at that, hand to her chest, aghast and all, but that's all it is. An act. Short-lived, at that, because right after -- after making a point to step back as well, mind -- she'll let the offended look melt away into a laugh. ]
Really, what did you expect? You look as if you expected to lose your face to that.
no subject
Nothing! I just don't tend to give that sort of kiss to people who aren't my wife.
[ A little pause, and he waves his hand. ]
Earlier doesn't count. There wasn't any chance of enjoying that. You're different.
no subject
You're married. [ Furthermore: ] And you never mentioned that before... why? Because I'm fairly certain we could have gotten away with a kiss on the cheek, d'Artagnan.
[ So maybe she's judging him now, just a little bit. ]
no subject
[ He thinks that everyone knows. It's never been a secret. ]
I just didn't want you to take all of that, personally. That's all.
no subject
[ She lets out a quiet huff, although she's since decided against taking offense, so it's back to being amused. ]
At least now I know why Lucy is so mopey over you.
no subject
She's not.
At least, I hope she's not. She is like a sister. The thought of anything else would embarrass her as much as me. She's told me so.
no subject
[ Probably. ]
So, if your wife shows up, should I kiss her, too? Even the universe out?
no subject
Probably with violence towards him, in fairness. He'd be all right with that. ]
Yes, maybe. I'd like to think she wouldn't mind me trying to escape from magical mistletoe.
Her name is Constance, by the way.
no subject
I'll try to remember that, on the off-chance I catch her beating on the soldiers at the porter.
