THE MISTLETOE MEME

It was a quiet moment in the imPort cities, when the next devious plot of an unknown organization was realized. With the holiday season upon all the town, bundles of mistletoe with interference technology hidden in the festive bows and pins holding them together was distributed throughout the town and into all the residences of the imPorts.
The interference technology creates a stasis field keeping imPorts trapped underneath it, protecting the mistletoe itself with a small barrier. However, it only seems able to hold two people at a time, and and the reaction of the nanites to sudden changes in chemistry brought on by embracing or kissing brings the stasis field crashing down, leaving the mistletoe vulnerable to destruction at that time.
It's up to you, imPorts, to break free of these mistletoe traps and destroy all the mistletoe in the cities!

Stuck in place next to a dragon isn't how I really planned on spending my evening, but here we are. [ Dragon. Dragon man. Dragon... thing? ] You aren't the "devour all humans" sort, are you?

[He snorts. There's a difference, dammit.
And, then he makes a disgusted sound.]
I don't eat people.

[ One finger pointing up, up, up at the hanging plant with the suspicious barrier. ]
no subject
Mistletoe? How can that possibly be the problem?
[He stops.
Oh. Hell no. Let's not jump to conclusions. Surely it's something else causing the barrier. Something far less ridiculous.
The look on his face and the set of his wings suggest that he doesn't believe it, though.]

[ One that doesn't entirely seem to perturb, Raina. Sure, they're stuck in place, but she can think of some worse people to be stuck with. So, chipper as always, she tilts her head toward Hawke. ]
Should we use this time to catch up? [ A sweeping glance toward the offending plant. ] Or do as the mistletoe demands?
no subject
[ No, definitely not the worst person to be stuck by, that much Hawke would agree with, but seriously? They're stuck here because of a plant? She looks up at it, frowning and puzzled. ]
Since when?
no subject
Stop. You'll hurt its feelings.
[ She places a finger to her lips with a little wink. ]
I mean, it is tradition to kiss under the mistletoe. This particular bundle seems to be taking its job more seriously than most.
no subject
Then maybe it'll wilt if I say enough mean things about it.
[ Bully the mistletoe, bully the mistletoe! Although, when Raina mentioned that little tradition, she's immediately less interested in the plant hanging overhead, instead looking back down and raising her eyebrows. ]
Oh? [ Okay, ignoring the entire 'stuck here' part, she can't help but let a smirk slide across her face. ] Well, that doesn't seem like such a bad demand after all.
no subject
And who are we, really, to stand in the way of tradition?
[ An innocent little shrug. Hey, it's not cheating if it's kissing under the magical mistletoe, right??? ]
no subject
Well, I suppose respecting a tradition this one time won't do me wrong. [ Totally not cheating, he would probably appreciate the view, okay. All that said, she turns to lean down some towards Raina. ] But just this once.
no subject
Just once...? [ Her voice lowers, soft and seductive. Raina's gaze travels from her lips to her eyes and back down again. ]
That's an awfully restrictive stance to take.
[ But her hand comes up to rest against the side of Hawke's cheek, and she closes the distance -- lips brushing lips, so light and tentative until they lock into place for a more demanding kiss. ]
no subject
And Hawke may have had something cheeky to say in response, had Raina not moved on so determinedly to the kissing. Not that she would ever complain about that, of course. If anything, it's a fantastic way to rebut such a restrictive number for holiday respect. The mage presses on into the kiss with only a second or two left to surprise, automatically finding places to put her hands once the distance is closed. In this case, lightly on Raina's hips, the least offensive spot she can think of right now.
Though she does break the kiss off after a moment, more to let out a breathy laugh than anything else. ]
Or twice. Three times, tops, if you're convincing enough.

I'd just like to say that this is not my fault.
I didn't summon that. This is something else.

[ A barrier producing plant is right out. Riiight out.
She frowns up at the mistletoe, considering fire. Of course she's considering fire. When is she not considering fire? ]
Should we be worried?
no subject
[ Though, not well. And not one that lasts, not like the swords. He doesn't have a great lot of use for them, in all fairness.
There's also a chance that he's stalling. He looks awkward. ]
It has to be magic. I can't actually -
[ He tries to move back, but of course he can't. Also, is he imagining this or is the mistletoe growing larger? ]
no subject
[ Important difference.
And referencing magic isn't the best way to stall, since Hawke just raises a knuckle to rap it against the barrier. ]
And no. I know magic. This is, oh, I don't know, a machine? [ She looks up at the mistletoe. Still considering fire, only she'll consider it out loud this time. ] I could throw something at it, but it might backfire and kill us. Very messily, I might add.
no subject
Could you please not, for all our sakes?! I didn't wake up with a death wish. That can't be our first port of call.
[ He will at this point try pulling a dagger out, to cut the mistletoe down. This works about as well as you'd expect, which is to say the dagger makes no indent on the stem. Instead, the leaves grow all the larger. ]
Well it's insistent, I'll give it that.
no subject
[ That's so rude! She wouldn't kill a friend! Most friends. Well, she wouldn't kill d'Artagnan, that's good enough. ]
So, verdict is... we're stuck. Which we knew, but now we know for absolutely certain.
no subject
You once tried to knock down the ceiling of an underground tunnel I was still in! Can you blame me for being cautious?!
It's mistletoe. It probably wants us to kiss, just for maximum embarrassment.
no subject
[ So offended! She knew what she was doing! The update about the mistletoe there, well, that's even more annoying, but not for the reasons d'Artagnan might assume. ]
What? That's all it wants? Why didn't you start by saying that? We'd already be out of here...
