MOM CAN YOU DROP ME OFF? (IN RUSSIA?)

01. The city of Heropa is what one might expect from a small, bright and cheery place. The locals are friendly enough and local shop owners might offer a free drink to welcome you to their fair city. Some of the locals might thank you for always lending your service to the nation and others might not say anything. In fact, some people might back away from any imPort who quite obviously looks like they aren't from around the neighborhood. Once in a while there's a look of disdain on someone's face and hushed voices. A snippy voice wonders aloud: "My taxes are going to their parties and other expenses? When are they going to do something for us for a change? Why if they weren't around, I bet the Soviets--" These naysayers may, however, find themselves hushed with a judgmental: "You couldn't do what they do even if you had powers. They don't have to help us, you know!"

02. De Chima, Virginia, is a large city with a healthy economy, and though it's quieter, there are just as many citizens awed at your presence. Heavy winds have people grasping at their newspapers and constantly brushing hair out of their faces, but that doesn't distract them from crowding you in excitement if you're obviously from a different time or world, or just let it slip that you're a newcomer. Children and young teenagers are especially likely to ask for an autograph and a photo.

Some locals seem less enthused to see you. They never make an approach, but they can be overheard scoffing and muttering something about cameras and an incident involving gas. "Biological warfare... we sure some of them haven't defected?"

03. Maurtia Falls, Pennsylvania, is normally known for being a little more on the apathetic side, but there's been tension in the atmosphere lately, contrasted by headlines broadcasting petty, unimportant local news and no worldly news.

People are not as friendly in this city and go out of their way to avoid walking down the same sidewalk as the more obvious looking imPorts pass through. Local cops say nothing, but they scowl at those imPorts and mutter under their breaths resentfully about "vigilantes". However, not all locals turn the other way seeing imPorts; some of them will offer a polite enough smile and thank them for their hard work. They don't stop to clarify what they mean, though.

04. Nonah, North Carolina, is the liveliest of all cities. It's loud, busy and there's some kind of energy in the air that gets everyone buzzing with excitement. Anyone who they come to determine an imPort is bombarded with all sorts of offers; job offers, advertising gigs, spokesperson for advocating children stay in school, etc. Anything and everything! You name it. Shops offer discounts for food and clothing, whatever they need. Advertisements are abound for imPorts to make appearances at various, televised celebrations, luring them in with promises of free food, merchandise, and payment. ImPort action figures and merchandise are on sale now, and every corner's coffee shop is still serving festive peppermint goods of every shape and form.

[01 - Heropa]

[Despite Heropa's size, it's still a city that Lan's never heard of, let alone been to (in fact, he's not even sure what country it's supposed to be in, just that it isn't his own), and so he's completely lost. His luck's been pretty poor so far, in that everyone he's asked has either brushed him off or ignored him completely.

Still, there's always the chance he'll get someone nice, and so he'll keep asking around. ImPort or not, he can't tell the difference right away.]

Hey, 'scuse me! Can you help me out?

[00 - Anywhere!]

[Lan could move just as well on skates as he could simply walking. On an empty road it was easy, but a crowd made it a little more difficult. But he wanted to be in that direction, and so he had to go through the crowd.]

Coming through! Watch ou--whoa, sorry about that!

[Care to try to stop him before he actually runs into someone? Or you, for that matter?]

[Licenseless Rider's just finished parking his bike - but that won't stop him from helping someone who looks to be a young boy.]

What's the matter?

[Preteen boy, but whatever. Technicalities.]

I'm new here and I kinda got lost. I'm looking for this address right now. [He produces a piece of paper from his pocket and hands it over--it's one of the imPort housing units.]

[He looks the paper over - he's regrettably bad with directions - but his own address happens to be only a few blocks away from this one. He starts unchaining his bike from the rack.]

If you'd like, you can hop on. I'm new myself, but I think I know the way.

Really? Yeah, I'll take you up on that offer!

[He doesn't know the guy just parked his bike or else he might feel a little guilty making him move it again.]

[He doesn't mind! It's his duty as a hero for justice. Licenseless Rider flips the kickstand up and hops up onto the bike.]

The rear cassettes are wide enough to brace your feet on... [He leans back and points at the center of the two back wheels.] But I would still recommend hanging on to my shoulders.

Okay. Um...

[He's done more dangerous things than ride on the wheel pegs of a bike, he can deal with this.]

I think I'm good whenever you're ready.

[He'll probably hold Rider around the chest or waist, if that's okay with him.]

[He's perfectly fine with wherever Lan decides to hold him - most kinds of physical contact don't particularly nettle him. Rider nods his head and starts pedaling at a steady pace down the bike lane, occasionally flanked by someone who's hovering off the ground instead.

Still, he figures that he'd better make small talk.]

Hey. Do you have any kind of family here?

Lan Hikari? [ He sounds utterly startled. ]

[Good dodge.

Also good method of getting him to stop, as that's the first time he's heard someone call him by his name without him introducing himself.]

Yeah? Do I know you?

...Not as such...I know you, though. [ He feels like it would be a really bad idea to introduce himself right off. ] Ah, by the way, Megaman will be happy to see you. It's been tough for him.

'Not as such'? What kind of answer is that?

[And then an abrupt mood switch as soon as he hears about Megaman.]

W-wait, Megaman's here? [Alive?] Where is he?

It's an answer. [ Pedantry.

He notes the sudden change. What had happened to these two? ]

Ah...I don't know exactly where he is right now, but I'm sure he'll come soon. You two can't be separated for long.

It's a bad answer.

[A lot has happened very recently, to Lan. He has no idea what's happened here. Probably a good thing.]

I'll find him eventually if he's here! He's okay, right?

Ah, you got me. It is a bad answer, isn't it?

[ Doesn't attempt to rectify his bad answer at all. ]

Yes, he's all right. But he's been having a hard time without you. He'll be very happy to see you.

...Though, he might not tell you that... [ Oops? ]

Anyway, I think you'll be surprised at what he can do now. [ He won't spoil anything for them, after all. Lan deserves to figure out what Megaman can do by himself.

He can't help but sound a little melancholy, though. ]

[Megaman's feeling incredibly antsy today, not really helped by the fact that he could swear he could feel synchro. Obviously he can't be, because Lan isn't here, but it's still itching away at the nape of his neck anyway. At least he's pretty sure that's what he's feeling, it's been almost a year now. He's honestly starting to wonder if he's just finally lost it.

Maybe a walk will help. Maybe he can go out and clear his head and burn off whatever's doing this to him. So here he is wandering around Heropa and for a couple seconds he's sure he must have finally snapped, because he could swear he just heard...

No. No way. Not possible.]

Lan? Lan!

[Desperately fighting his way through the crowd now. He needs to find his brother, he heard him, he knows he did--!]

[Fortunately, he won't have to fight too much, as yelling is a great way to get Lan's attention, since even if he didn't catch that it was his name being shouted, he'd know the voice anywhere.

It gets him to skid to a stop, at least, moving to a less crowded area of the sidewalk.]

...M-Megaman?

[He wouldn't be in the crowd would he? Was he imagining things simply because he was alone and just hoped he heard right?]

[That certainly does help. Trying to spot a particular person in a crowd can be pretty darn difficult when you're as much of a smol as Megaman is - especially when the person he's looking for is even shorter than him. Finally he manages to work through the mass of people and

It's him. It's really, really him.

Instinct kicks in - his newer, physical instincts - and he rushes forward to grab Lan and pull him into his arms. He doesn't even think about what he's doing or what it means. Give him some time, it'll click eventually.]

You're here, you're here, you're here...!

[Lan's looking too--for a minute or two it's still just a crowd of strangers, and then he's unsure whether or not he should hug back or start hitting whatever part of Megaman he can properly reach.

He ultimately settles for hugging.]

I'm here? You're here! I...I thought you were gone for good this time!

[He is not going to start crying; he's trying very hard.]

[Oh, Lan. Megaman just hugs him a little bit tighter, automatically reaching up to run a hand through Lan's hair. It's okay, big brother's here, he's got you and he's never letting go.]

Hey, it's okay. Not gonna get rid of me that easy. [He leans forward a bit and lays his head on Lan's shoulder.] I missed you so much...

I hope not. Jerk.

[He tightens the hug, digging his fingertips into Megaman's shoulders.]

[And that's when it clicks for him.]

Hold on...

How are you even here?

[As in, how were they even physically touching each other? They weren't in the cyberworld, but that's the only place they weren't separated by a piece of glass or a video screen.

He's not pushing his brother away, but does pull back slightly. Sorry.]

[He's a little upset with that. Let him cling to you in peace!

Doesn't help that the situation...hasn't quite registered with him yet. After a year, he's gotten so used to being able to move between the real and cyber worlds that no matter how weird being in the real world feels, it's not something that really registers as much as it used to.]

Uh...the porter grabbed me?
