HE TOLD ME SEVERAL TIMES THAT HE DIDN'T LIKE MY KIND

TEST DRIVE MEME
Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!
Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at someone else's thread, either!
And remember to have fun!01. The city of Heropa is what one might expect from a small, bright and cheery place, where locals are friendly enough and local shop owners might offer a free drink to welcome you to their fair city. Some of the locals might thank you for always lending your service to the nation and others might not say anything. In fact, some people might back away from any imPort who quite obviously looks like they aren't from around the neighborhood. Once in a while there's a look of disdain on someone's face and hushed voices.
An upset, deeply masculine voice wonders aloud: "More of them, when we already know they can't protect us? That's just painting a bigger target on the city's back!"
"That's just what Ronald Chump says!" Exclaims a young woman. She raises her fist in anger at the imPort-hating individual. "We're not going to tolerate bigots here!"
02. De Chima, Virginia, is a large city with a healthy economy, and though it's quieter, there are just as many citizens awed at your presence. Science and technology are the lifeblood of this city, so you're likely to come across a good many locals taking your picture with the newest of devices. Be forewarned: since FanPort happened, imPort fandom is at a new height. Don't be surprised if people start following you just to see if you'll do anything TMZ-worthy.
The trick is to stay calm, and don't wig out if someone asks what you think about imPort shipping.
03. Maurtia Falls, Pennsylvania, is having a rainy day. The streets seem to be running with water, the sky can't seem to stop crying. You might want to check out some consumerism-inclined shelter, be that a smoky and dart-eyed bar full of grumbling locals, or a grimy and industrial coffee shop (full of grumbling locals). Watch your step, newly minted imPort, because if you let on that you're fresh meat then you're likely to attract a posse of two or three sharp knuckled no-good-dooers. This is the criminally exciting part of town, so beware.
04. Nonah, North Carolina, is the liveliest of all cities; loud, busy and there's some kind of energy in the air that gets everyone buzzing with excitement. There's a baseball game going on in one of the parks amidst all those tall buildings, and you're welcome to watch! It's not an official game in the season, it's more like a friendly skirmish between local baseball teams. Midway through the game, the umpire might take note of you new imPorts -- assuming you're standing out in the crowd. He'll welcome you to throw a pitch if you'd like! Of course, the opposing team isn't too keen on the idea. Better look for more imPorts to play ball!

[Most of the time, Yuu's pretty reckless and impulsive, really. But he recalls very recently how confused he was when he first got here and all. So he's trying to be patient. Even if the idea has him half amused and half exasperated at the idea of Shinoa's reaction to hearing it.]
Trucks are bigger, sure. But they're all I've driven myself. Don't have as much option as these back home, depending on what you find on the road to use. It's complicated. But who's Livi?
[Must be a friend of hers or something. Possibly someone with a decent amount of influence and/or money if he made something similar to a school back home?]
Not exactly. I was.....somewhere else in between for a while. But yeah. I joined the army to get revenge.
[It was all he had, holding on to Guren's advice to find something to keep him going until he found someone that he could help and live for. Vengeance was all that kept him going since, for years until he found Mika again in the most unexpected way.]
no subject
It must be tough being so limited. You seem pretty interested on the subject. It even got me wanting to get my hands on one. [As for the mention of Livi, Nike will offer a sheepish smile. Wow. Why was she feeling a little shy about it?] Well, you see, he's my future husband.
[More than a friend, he was technically her future husband, her fiance, in other words. As for influence, yes, he is technically the most influential in her world -- being king of the entire world and all.]
Oh. Then you didn't leave by choice. [No question was made because it felt like it was the case. Somehow, it felt like she shouldn't pry too much in his past, but she couldn't help feel curious about him though.] ...did you make any progress before being forcefully brought here?
no subject
[Yuu had always more often than not, tried to keep everyone at arm's length. Sure, he's getting a lot better about it. Ever since reuniting with Mika again. Which is something. But at the same time, there's reason he has a habit of trying to keep his distance.]
It's just that, ah, growing up I never really got a chance to drive. But here I can, even if it is giving ice creams to kids.
[Future husband though....] Huh. So that's it. I guess that explains that then. But.....I didn't really. But that's okay. I figured something else instead. A new goal.
[It's hard to deny that his expression and voice soften with that last. All because of Mika. Suddenly, revenge wasn't so important anymore. Reuniting with him, helping him, that was.]
no subject
We'll go with pure luck, I guess. Don't worry about it, okay? I don't mind talking for the both of us!
[Even if he is doing that already, answering all of her questions concerning his home and goals. All topics of conversation Nike will pay a great deal of attention to. She couldn't help wonder over the type of world he was from. So far, it sounded like it was a futuristic one as this one was except it wasn't as resourceful. Could it be he came from a poor world or country?]
Ice cream? Whatever it is, it sounds like a wonderful job to have. [Since anything with kids usually are, in her eyes.] Kinda. He already created the center before meeting me. It was after he had become the new ruler of his kingdom, I think. I know he created it with the intention of protecting the unprotected groups due to the way things once were with ranks and class. He removed those barriers. [Which she is quite proud of, truth be told. And to be fair, she was starting to feel more relieved with the boy before her too. He had a new goal now.] That's great! I'm glad to hear it. Did you gain it here or back in your world?

[It's only more recently, since Guren took him in that he really had proper food. Occasionally as a treat, they had a nice meal with the vampires, but most of the time it was those pouches they were forced to get through to recover from having their blood being taken.]
Protecting them? Sounds like he probably had his work cut out for him. But if it worked, that's.... [Impressive? Is it, if he pretty much bought it all with his money and influence? Regardless, the result he got was beneficial.]
Back home. When I found out Mika was still alive.

The children that lose their families -- even if they're from another country -- weren't protected by anyone. They were once expected to live off whatever they could find in the streets. [A short pause as her expression weakens.] ...most of them don't survive living in that state, and other people usually shoo them away instead of help. That's why most of the children in that center are one of his biggest fans. He even checks up on them from time to time too. [Which makes her smile as she looks back on her own visit to those very same children. They are all the reason she decided to fight for her position as their future Queen. She wants to protect them too.]
Mika? [But at learning over the discovery part, her smile will grow once more.] Somehow it feels like that's a whole other story, huh? Congratulations on reuniting with them again. Are they living here too?
no subject
[He isn't quite sure how else to put it. But he can show her easily enough what he means later. More important is listening to her continue. Children that lose their families....
Yuu's fist at the table near his drink clenches at that, his lips purse. Family. Orphans. It still hurts. A lot. Even years later, he still can't forget them.]
Someone should look after them. Those kids. Mika and I tried to. To look after the younger ones.
[They weren't quite ultimately the oldest, obviously, but out of their little group, they were, with Akane. Still.]
He's not here though. Not unless he's around and I haven't seen him yet.
[Which. Is unlikely to say the least. The moment either of them learned the other was here, of course they would find each other.]
no subject
Her attention will be on his fists and the passionate way he spoke his thoughts out loud over the orphan problem in her world while learning more about him and this Mika too. A brighter smile will appear as she realizes more and more that he was a very kind person for someone who looks rough around the edges.]
Don't worry, our kingdom is definitely protecting them! We'll do everything in our power to have them enjoy their childhoods and learn skills that will help them survive as adults. [All said in a semi-formal and sincere way, almost similar to the way a leader would except when the leader was genuinely passionate and emotional over it.] Heh! Just like an older sibling would, right?
Oh. Sorry. [She feels a little bad to learn that. It seems like this Mika fellow is someone very important to him; however over time she'll smile a little more.] ...but I'm sure you'll see him again real soon. Maybe he'll find his way here too. You never know, right?
no subject
[Easy enough to show her later. Yuu has decidedly come a long way since Guren initially ordered him to make friends, when he first met Shinoa, Kimizuki, Yoichi and Mitsuba. Since finding Mika was alive. It's helped, in a lot of ways.]
Something like that, I guess. I never actually had a sibling myself though. But that sounds great! [A heck of a lot better than the likes of being underground with the vampires.]
Maybe he will. I'm not sure if he'd be thrilled or not about this place.
[On the one hand, Yuu is away from the humans and vampires that want to use him back home. On the other hand, there are a lot of humans running around.....]
no subject
I don't fully understand it, but I'll take your word for it. I should get used to feeling, huh?
[Her attention will return to him as he begins to talk more about himself. She could already tell his heart definitely belonged to the orphanage he was from and this Mika as well. And yet, she felt as though she shouldn't pry too much over his past.]
It's funny. I can somehow picture you being more like the younger brother of a group than the actual older one. [Well.] Oldest one, no, but as one of the older kids, yeah. Maybe a middle child like Kara-nee is, but it doesn't feel entirely right neither. [Then she began to grow pensive.] No offense. I somehow get the image of you being more like the type that needs to be kept an eye on.
[Then about Mika and his reaction, she'll look a little surprised.]
Why?
no subject
A -- eh? Like I'm the one everyone needs to keep an eye on?
[Yuu almost splutters at that, half sheepish and half indignant. Because, well. She isn't entirely wrong in that guess or assumption. There's a reason his squad back home have trouble keeping him safe most of the time, why they berate him for being an idiot. Not that Yuu himself is about to admit that, of course.]
He's just -- he's been through a lot. I don't know, this war and all. There's enough of that back home.
[And all the humans. So many. Mika doesn't trust them. Or, the ones back home, at least. But Yuu isn't about to go blabbing to everyone about Mika's situation. Not entirely. Not when Mika himself isn't present to help explain if he was comfortable with it.]
no subject
Kinda! You seem really reliable too. More so than I am, but... [She did catch a small glimpse of the type of personality he may have. It feels passionate to her. Then again, he reminds her a bit of Livi, and that boy has a very explosive type personality even when he is very good at hiding it unlike herself.] Something about you reminds me a bit of Livi too. I wonder if it has to do with your experience in war. Or maybe it could be due to your age. Then again, you seem to like children a great deal too. I just can't imagine you being the type to be so strict or stern, you know. [If he hadn't reveal the tidbit of him being in the military, she wouldn't have noticed.]
War doesn't sound pleasant in the least bit. I can't understand the struggles you and your friend have gone through, but... [She'll try to, at least.] Let me know if he ever finds his way here. I'd like to offer him a warm welcome as you did with me. Maybe he'll appreciate seeing something beautiful.
no subject
Reliable? Ha....you haven't heard Shinoa and the others going on about me, or you wouldn't say that. [Or maybe she would. But Yuu is reliable in a way? In the 'predictably reckless and protective' sort of way, at least.] I dunno. Maybe. [For all that Yuu is in the military, that by no means implies he's the most obedient and rules oriented type. Probably anyone could tell that quickly after meeting him. But then, he hasn't really been around kids since, and he doesn't know this Livi guy to compare himself.]
Sure. I can let you know. If he doesn't first.
[A warm welcome, something beautiful. Well, Yuu wouldn't stop her. And besides, it isn't like Mika is guaranteed to show up as far as he can tell so.]
no subject
I don't need to. I call it how I see it. You've been the most helpful person I've met so far. Even if you are the first one to talk to me... [There might a small chuckle at that. But, no, she likes to believe or consider herself to be good at judging a person's character. Even if it is mainly comparing and contrasting to those she already considers to be as such.]
What does he look like? Just in case he doesn't give out a name, and all.
no subject
[Yuu being the first would obviously play a large part. But regardless, he instead chooses to focus on Mika, even as he sips more of his drink from the straw. Honestly, if Mika were to show up, he probably wouldn't be readily giving his name. Outside of probably using the phones to try contact Yuu, if he wonders or finds out the other is here.]
He's a bit taller than I am. Blonde hair, blue eyes. Last I saw was wearing one of the other uniforms, mostly white. [The vampire uniforms. But he isn't outright specifying that.]
no subject
Her attention will return onto the topic of his friend. He seemed to like talking about that more than himself. This Mike person was definitely someone she needed to look out for.]
Is he around the same age as you? [Then again.] I don't think I asked for your age or you made any mention of it. You look about...fifteen, if I have to guess.
no subject
Hm? Oh. Yeah. We're both sixteen. So you were close.
[Though really, it's almost hard to recall how different he was even mere months ago prior to reuniting with Mika. Let alone a whole year. Automatically pushing everyone away, claiming he didn't need friends. Because of the fear of the fate of the Hyakuya orphans repeating once more if he did get close to anyone else, aside from Guren.]
no subject
[Don't mind her as she feels a little proud about it. It was nice to talk to someone around her age for a change.]
We're a year apart instead of two, it would seem. Do you think we'll be able to hang out at this school place that you mentioned before? If you're there, then I could be placed there too, right?
no subject
[He didn't really think much on all of that until Nike asks him if they might be in the same class or not.]
But if it's not and we're in a different class, I guess there's always lunch break or whatever.
no subject
[At the idea of tests, her expression will change a bit. Not even the future will escape from tests and rituals, huh? She'll try not to turn too blue at the thought.]
I-I hope I can skip these tests. I don't think I'll be able to survive any of those. I'm finally free from my own studies now and all. [But she wants to hang out with Yuu though.] Wait! There's a lunch break!?
no subject
[For one. For another, his lessons never dealt so much with America, more focused on Japan if anything. Even then, given his situation, his education in general was lacking.]
I've never been the best with tests either. But of course there's a lunch break! Everyone has to eat, even the teachers.
no subject
[Or in a different country. Didn't he say he was from a countryside known as Japan? Maybe it isn't close to a city like this one?]
I don't blame you. They are hard especially when you have a lot to memorize. Is it free or do you have to pay for it on a daily basis? It's odd to think of instructors eating with their pupils unless it was ettiquette lessons.
no subject
[So not majorly in the future as such. But enough. And the different country probably plays a huge part in that too, to be fair. Different setting, different history and events. At least, after a point.]
Ah, I think they usually have their lunch in the staff room if they do stick around the school for their break. But....etiquette lessons?
no subject
Etiquette lessons is like....it teaches you table manners and the like. You know, how to eat, which fork to use for which type of meal, how to sit, and which way to raise a cup, and all that other nonsense that rich people need to keep in mind. I usually skip those lessons than anything else. [She'd rather work or interact with the citizens of the country than learning meaninglessness topics like that.]
no subject
[And then Yuu makes a face. Because. That sounds so boring he is so glad he never had to sit down for all that. But then, nobody would ever mistake Yuu for someone polite and formal, given his upbringing and brash nature.]
There's a proper way to raise a cup? Seriously? All that just sounds boring.
