TEST DRIVE MEME

Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!

Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at someone else's thread, either!

01. The city of Heropa is what one might expect from a small, bright and cheery place, where locals are friendly enough and local shop owners might offer a free drink to welcome you to their fair city. Some of the locals might thank you for always lending your service to the nation, while others might not say anything -- but if you have something nasty to say, better not say anything at all, right?

Unfortunately, tragedy has struck today. It seems like the entire Heropa PD is parked out of a local, popular grocery chain. A huge crowd is amassed in the parking lot despite the best efforts of officers to get them to leave. They whisper about excitement and shame, and you don't have to ask if you just listen in a bit...

"What do you think he'll do to the employees? He sounded so serious..." "He really wants that pussy, huh?" "If I left my man for cheating on me, I'd take the damn cat, too!" "How does he think taking her and her coworkers hostage is gonna make her change her mind about him being a bad boyfriend?" "My wife is pregnant, please - if I don't get her favorite deli sub I might as well not go home!"

Domestic disputes! Tragic. The police aren't too sure how to handle this hostage situation, claiming the man only has a box cutter and isn't actually waving it around at the moment, but...are you an imPort? They'd really appreciate the help, okay. Get in there and counsel the unhappy couple. Or not!

02. De Chima, Virginia, is a large city with a healthy economy, and though it's quieter than Heropa, there are still large numbers of citizens to be awed at your very presence. Look at you! Organic wonder! Science and technology are the lifeblood of this city, so you're likely to come across a good many locals taking your picture with the newest of devices. The imPort craze remains high here, and you may find yourself cornered by overzealous imPort fans, media wannabes and opportunists alike, shoving cameras in your face.

Their questions are likely to be fairly mundane, however; get ready for an interview about your taste in romantic partners, personal underwear choices, favorite foods, and more!

03. Maurtia Falls, Pennsylvania has had its ups and downs since imPorts started reappearing. Several imPort heroes have put focused efforts into cleaning up the streets of this somewhat infamous city, while others have swooped in to help the criminal industry thrive. More so here than the streets of any other imPort city, the battle between good and evil looks more like a war of escalation than a heroic tale. That might make the less than warm welcome imPorts are given in the city a little more understandable. The emergence of locals with superpowers is hardly helping. While some of these individuals have turned to crime, many locals seem more inclined to defend their native powered drug dealer than help the non-native hero bring them to justice. Who are you to tell them how to live?

Spring has sprung, and flowers are popping up—in the form of seven-foot sentient musclebound daisies! A local criminal known as Flower Power has set them on the city, and they're going on a rampage, but a number of citizens have taken advantage. Do you go after the bushwhacking blossoms or the local looters?

04.Nonah, North Carolina, is the liveliest of all cities; loud, busy and there's some kind of energy in the air that gets everyone buzzing with excitement. To be American is to be part of a melting pot, and that there’s more money to be made by the thriving local industries hardly hurts.

Natives may gather around new arrivals and ask both personal and broad questions about life as an imPort, what they are looking forward to, what their favorite article of underwear is. A few night clubs offer free entrance - just this once! And they are bound to notice that a man has taken up a spot in a local street, eating pancakes off of a fold out table and holding up traffic. Many people are taking pictures and more interested in whether or not this is performance art than ushering him out of the way. He does have an extra chair and table, however, and will welcome and feed company, especially imPorts.

[ Luke was totally just minding his own business, going about his day as usual. A faint warning in the back of his head as he passed by just a normal, innocent looking wall was the only indication he got that something was going to go wrong, and the only reason he didn't stumble over when he was suddenly bumped into. He let out an alarmed noise, reaching out to awkwardly catch the person that had come through the wall next to him before they ended up falling instead. ]

[ ...although he did end up staring for a moment. Wow, she was... really pretty; like she had the same kind of soft gentleness to her appearance that Leia had. ]

[ He offered her a small smile, a bit of an amused light coming to his eyes as she went from apology to an almost excited question. ]

It was hard not to notice.

[ It's great that it actually worked. Not so great that she nearly knocked someone over on the other side of the wall she went through. Luckily, neither of them ended up on the floor and no injuries were to be had from her seeing if these powers actually worked.

She smiled when he more or less confirmed that, yes, she had in fact come through that wall but... there's a pause shortly after. He looked so familiar in a way she can't quite put her finger on. It's strange. ]

I'm sorry. I was just trying to see if I could actually do that.

[ Blonde hair? Blue eyes? Sunshine smile? Nah, doesn't sound remotely like anyone she knows. ]

[ Luke let out a soft laugh, making sure she was okay on her feet, before letting her go. Of course, she felt familiar too, but he dismissed it as being because of his previous comparison to Leia. ]

Looks like you did.

[ Well, at least he doesn't seem too displeased with her more or less running into him, right? Padmé smiles to Luke before another look around is done of... well, wherever it is she's ended up in. ]

I don't suppose you know the best place to find something to eat around here, do you?

[ Since she hasn't really had much since coming here and those pancakes out there with that guy sitting at the table weren't exactly what she had been looking for. ]

I was trying to find a place myself.

[ He shrugged sheepishly, following her gaze. Pancakes were pretty awesome, but that wasn't exactly what he was out for either. ]

I just arrived here a month ago.

[ Padmé smiled to this stranger, feeling... calm around him, as though he really posed no sort of threat to her. ]

Well that's a little comforting to know I'm not the only new one around here.

[ Not that she would actually think of herself as an exception to such a thing but it's not as though she's run into many (literally) who are rather new themselves here, everyone around seeming rather settled. ]

I'm Padmé. [ She offered her name with a smile. ] Maybe we can figure something out if we put our heads together.

I'm Luke.

[ He couldn't help but return the smile; she was a bit infectious, and he couldn't help but feel happy about getting a smile from her. Weird... he never experienced that before. And the Force was still tugging at the back of his head, trying to tell him something, but he couldn't put his finger on what. ]

If we make it back to the main street, we should be able to find something.

[ Luke... she smiled at this name, finding it one to be that she rather liked. Strange, right? Still, the idea of finding something to eat more or less overruled any curious thoughts about that and she nodded at his suggestion to take to the main street. ]

Sounds like a plan to me.

[ And that was when she took to heading off ahead of him... not going through a wall this time either. ]

Are you in the mood for anything in particular? I'm sure we can find something for whatever it is we decide on.

[ Luke let out a faint noise, hurrying a moment so he could catch up and match stride with her. ]

Not really; I've been wandering around for awhile, so just any kind of food sounds good.

Well I'm sure we can find something that we both might like.

[ She smiled to Luke as he caught up to her, looking back ahead of her as they went. Everything seemed so... different and new but... that's to be expected when one is taken from their own star system and dropped here. Wherever this is. ]

What were doing wandering around? Trying to figure this place out?

Sort of? I'm trying to finish building something from home, so I've been going to the different cities looking for parts.

[ He was getting close to finishing his lightsaber, at least! ]

[ Building something? That seemed to be a running theme with a few of the men in her life... or at least, one in particular. ]

What are you trying to finish building?

[ She of course makes sure to keep her eyes open for any place that might strike either of their fancy when it comes to food or even beverages, trying her best to ignore any who might choose to snap a couple photos here and there. Really, what is with people and that? ]

[ Luke peered over at her for a moment, as if trying to judge if she was a person he could speak freely to. Really, though, he had come to that conclusion before she even asked. ]

A lightsaber. I lost my old one before coming here.

[ The word lightsaber is enough to make Padmé stop in her tracks and stare to Luke. That's not exactly a word she thought she would encounter here of all places and yet, he had said the word and so simply, too. ]

You're a Jedi?

[ A small, humble smile crept onto his face. ]

Trying to be.

[ Well. That's more or less one of the last things she expected to hear here. Not that it's a bad thing... quite the opposite actually, especially with her being quite familiar with them. However, that simply begs the question now. ]

Where are you from?

Tatooine.

[ He shrugged sheepishly at that; he knew that planet wasn't exactly the most glamorous of origins. ]

I grew up on a moisture farm my uncle owned.

[ Tattooine. It's a place she's familiar with... a place she's been to a couple times but... she didn't know there were other Jedi from there. She only knew of one... ]

And so you're hoping to become a Jedi then?

[ Because he said that he was trying to be a Jedi, not that he was one. ]

[ Luke nodded at that, his smile turning a little sad. ]

My first mentor died before he could show me much, and I had to leave my second because of the Empire. I was hoping to go back to him eventually, but I ended up here instead.

[ Padmé grew silent as Luke explained his situation to her, a frown of her own coming to her face. ]

I'm sorry. [ She offered. ] But you've only been here for a month you said, right? So there's still a chance you could get back to him soon.

I hope so.

[ Sheepishness crept back into his smile, and he let out a faint chuckle. ]

My buddy, Han, has been here awhile, and with how... landlocked this place is, it's really easy to get stir crazy in a short amount of time.

Landlocked?

[ That had Padmé stare off for a moment, look to their surroundings since they've stopped what with his mentioning that he was (trying to be) a Jedi and all. ]

So there's really no way out of here then? To go back to where we're from?

[ She recalled the "briefing" that she had been given when first arriving here but to think that it really was rather final... that's a little troubling. ]

Not by conventional means, anyway.

[ His stomach let out a noise, reminding him that he needed food, and he needed it ten minutes ago. He let out a huff at himself, shuffling a little to start off again, waiting for her to join him. ]

The technology doesn't seem advanced enough to even manage the most basic of hover vehicles. I can try to rig something together, but it might not be very safe.

[ Padmé continued along when Luke seemed to silently suggest they get going, keeping alongside him as she listened to his thoughts and suggestions. But... food was still something of a priority. ]

Well you don't want to risk your safety just to try and see if there's even a possibility of something working. Is there no one who knows anything about making it out of here?

From what I've heard, it seems the porter will sometimes send people home, but it seems to be random.

[ And others didn't seem to get warning... he didn't want to think about what would happen if Han or Lando just suddenly disappeared. ]
