Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!
Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at someone else's thread, either!
And remember there's only one rule in Test Drive Meme Club: have fun!01. The city of Heropa is what one might expect from a small, bright and cheery place, where locals are friendly enough and local shop owners might offer a free drink to welcome you to their fair city. Some of the locals might thank you for always lending your service to the nation, while others might not say anything -- but if you have something nasty to say, better not say anything at all, right?
Unfortunately, tragedy has struck today. It seems like the entire Heropa PD is parked out of a local, popular grocery chain. A huge crowd is amassed in the parking lot despite the best efforts of officers to get them to leave. They whisper about excitement and shame, and you don't have to ask if you just listen in a bit...
"What do you think he'll do to the employees? He sounded so serious..." "He really wants that pussy, huh?" "If I left my man for cheating on me, I'd take the damn cat, too!" "How does he think taking her and her coworkers hostage is gonna make her change her mind about him being a bad boyfriend?" "My wife is pregnant, please - if I don't get her favorite deli sub I might as well not go home!"
Domestic disputes! Tragic. The police aren't too sure how to handle this hostage situation, claiming the man only has a box cutter and isn't actually waving it around at the moment, but...are you an imPort? They'd really appreciate the help, okay. Get in there and counsel the unhappy couple. Or not!
02. De Chima, Virginia, is a large city with a healthy economy, and though it's quieter than Heropa, there are still large numbers of citizens to be awed at your very presence. Look at you! Organic wonder! Science and technology are the lifeblood of this city, so you're likely to come across a good many locals taking your picture with the newest of devices. The imPort craze remains high here, and you may find yourself cornered by overzealous imPort fans, media wannabes and opportunists alike, shoving cameras in your face.
Their questions are likely to be fairly mundane, however; get ready for an interview about your taste in romantic partners, personal underwear choices, favorite foods, and more!
03. Maurtia Falls, Pennsylvania has had its ups and downs since imPorts started reappearing. Several imPort heroes have put focused efforts into cleaning up the streets of this somewhat infamous city, while others have swooped in to help the criminal industry thrive. More so here than the streets of any other imPort city, the battle between good and evil looks more like a war of escalation than a heroic tale. That might make the less than warm welcome imPorts are given in the city a little more understandable. The emergence of locals with superpowers is hardly helping. While some of these individuals have turned to crime, many locals seem more inclined to defend their native powered drug dealer than help the non-native hero bring them to justice. Who are you to tell them how to live?
Spring has sprung, and flowers are popping up—in the form of seven-foot sentient musclebound daisies! A local criminal known as Flower Power has set them on the city, and they're going on a rampage, but a number of citizens have taken advantage. Do you go after the bushwhacking blossoms or the local looters?
04.Nonah, North Carolina, is the liveliest of all cities; loud, busy and there's some kind of energy in the air that gets everyone buzzing with excitement. To be American is to be part of a melting pot, and that there’s more money to be made by the thriving local industries hardly hurts.
Natives may gather around new arrivals and ask both personal and broad questions about life as an imPort, what they are looking forward to, what their favorite article of underwear is. A few night clubs offer free entrance - just this once! And they are bound to notice that a man has taken up a spot in a local street, eating pancakes off of a fold out table and holding up traffic. Many people are taking pictures and more interested in whether or not this is performance art than ushering him out of the way. He does have an extra chair and table, however, and will welcome and feed company, especially imPorts.

Nonetheless, Cinders is as determined as ever to make her own way, even if she has no idea what the word "ImPort" actually means (despite having heard it during her disorienting entrance), so she simply weaves her way past the curious onlookers and up to the first likely-looking person who knows what in the name of sanity might actually be going on - or at least might know what they're doing.]

Veronica Sawyer | Heathers the Musical | tw: references to depression and (assumed) suicide
[It's a day after Veronica wakes up in a brand new world, almost thirty years on from the suburban sprawl of Sherwood, Ohio, 1989. She's got to admit, time travel—and travel into a completely different universe—is not all that science fiction has made it out to be, because so far even the wonders of the future haven't been able to drag Veronica out of her dark thoughts.
She's pretty sure she's dead. Supposed to be dead, anyway. She feels dead, going through the motions of living, heart stubbornly pumping blood despite the fact that she should probably have been exploded into tiny pieces all over the school. It's a morbid image. She should write about that, once she finds a diary and a pen.
It's while she's walking around in De Chima (wow, Virginia's gone far since 1989) with a Slurpee that she somehow managed to generate from her palms (god, what a shitty superpower) that she finds herself cornered by a reporter. She answers their question with something short that she barely recalls, and then answers the next and the next and the next, and by the time the first guy's done Veronica suddenly finds herself the center of a mob.]
I—no, I don't like slushies that much, it's just that I can—no, I have no idea what you're talking about, where I'm from the year was 1989—no, I've never met any of them, I literally just got here—yes, I like chili fries, happy now—
["What would be your ideal romantic partner?"
Oh, that's easy, Heather Chandler's ghost whispers in Veronica's ear, gleeful as always. Tall, dark, and fucking psychotic! Isn't that right, Veronica?]

It's a small comfort, in light of the fact that Veronica is walking right into danger again with nothing to protect her but a croquet mallet she managed to beg off some guy. Heather Chandler's voice follows her in as always: hey, everyone, it's the dead girl walking making an encore performance! How cute.
She pauses in her stride.]
Goddammit. [She points the mallet at someone—perhaps you. Or perhaps you came in there after her, because someone voiced their doubts about the wisdom of sending in a seventeen-year-old imPort with a croquet mallet to resolve a hostage crisis.] Can you tell me where the storage room is?

De Chima. It was bright. It was vibrant. People were all around. People were interested in him. That was... well, it wasn't that new, but normally people didn't come for him. They came for his now-gone Valkyries, or for Ameterasu, or any of the rest of the pantheon -- even Baphomet, but not him. Things were easier that way, anyway. It certainly meant he could operate a little smoother.
But here? The fact that he had a glowing suit seemed to be enough to want to pester and pepper him with questions. Everything from who he shipped to who he was most excited to meet. Even a quick flip was enough for him to list off some of his favorites to the interviewers. Mostly? It boiled down to the Game of Thrones cast. Oh, and the Major, of course. He couldn't say no to that. That moved quickly to romantic picks, and that's where he -- very promptly -- stepped in it.
"I like them tall. Oh, and definitely Asian. I actually... normally I have about three Valkyries. So, uh, ladies, if anyone wants unimaginable power, come see me. We'll chat."
Did someone just yell something at him? Ah, go figure. Everyone was a critic.
[ 04. ]
The club worked. It was great. There were couches, drugs, alcohol, everything a teenager with a fake ID and a flash of cash could want to have a good time. He's good at getting what he wants, at least on the surface. Somehow, the helmeted man has someone at his side, drinks -- which he seems to drink through a mechanical straw -- and well -- that's a glass table for a reason.
The floor is all bodies, people dancing and moving, but it's not... right. Something about his body language says it. He's despondent. Maybe it's the way his shoulders curl in, or the way he waved off a fourth? maybe fifth drink. There's just something about this that isn't right, but...
Well, it's not like he can fix the crowd. So he doesn't even bother. He's not exactly going to make everyone's ears bleed by giving this a shot, and he hasn't had time to build new Valkyries. Nothing better to do than just suffer through this.
It beats being bored, anyway.

At least she has Owlie. The mechanical owl's perched on her shoulder as Minerva looks around. And oh. Geez. That sure is Woden stuck in this weird universe with her. Which is simultaneously reassuring (she's not the only god here!), annoying (why can't he be Baal?), and weird (why did the Porter bring in both of them?). So, as Woden details his creepy sex fantasies, said creepy sex fantasies are quickly going to get ruined as Minerva pushes her way through the crowd.
"Scuze me! Goddess of wisdom coming through!" Once she's pushed her way though, she looks up at Woden, giving him a tiny wave. "Uh. Hey."
How does one start a conversation of 'so, it looks like you're stuck in this weird universe as well'?

Veronica is a bit peeved that someone's already taken her seat. So her solution's simple: she finds a convenient chair somewhere and takes it with her. All in all the process takes half an hour and all Veronica has to show for it is a cheap bean bag chair that's sinking sadly, but the pancakes are calling her.]

[Hux's opinion of this backwater planet hadn't improved in the short time since his arrival. He couldn't understand how the natives here were so proud of their country or planet when they could barely get to their own moon. He would have pitied such a meager existence if he wasn't so frustrated at being stuck here.
And that frustration was turned on the local who had decided to grab him, he didn't even hear their question as his whole body tensed up, nausea rising in the back of his throat. He wasn't gentle at shoving the blithering idiot away from him, his hand going to the blaster in his coat pocket, pulling it out halfway.
But it didn't seem to be necessary as the local seemed to understand that it was best not to push him on answering questions about what he looked for in a potential partner. Hopefully, it would deter any other locals who might decide to run up to him to ask a stupid or invasive question. He could feel a headache between eyes, wondering if it would be better to be stranded on Hoth. At least wampas had better manners.
He dropped the blaster back into his pocket, he wouldn't have been able to fire it anyway given he was still wearing his gloves.]

[Alice causes an immediate scene as soon as she steps out into the city, and it's not because she's an imPort Well, yes, it is, but more than anything it's that she sparkles like the disco ball at Studio 54. Thankfully, most people are so startled by the sight that she can slip by quickly without much harassment, though she has to stop for a few selfies along the way.
She gets caught up in the crowd in front of the grocery store, not because of any sort of fan rush. She's hit by a distressing vision of one of the cops pulling out his gun and trying to take a shot at the man with the boxcutter. It could end a few ways, she sees, and none of them are happy. Only one ends well, and that's only if he doesn't shoot.]
Oh nooooo. [Snapping out of her vision, she turns to the person next to her looking a little distressed.] One of those officers is thinking about just shooting that man. If he does this all goes upside down.

[Nonah is a little more different than Heropa, mostly because people aren't so stunned by her skin that they stare. Mostly they just crowd around her, oohing and ahhing and asking her all sorts of personal questions about her lingerie (Carine Gilson), her clothes (a personal design), and her favorite foods (pass). She manages for a good while with a big, friendly smile on her face but after a good twenty minutes the intense, close contact with hot blooded humans starts to wear on her.
And there's someone in the crowd who's obviously bleeding from some kind of cut. This is it, this is the nightmare scenario.]

[The next passing imPort finds a very small, very eager looking woman latched onto their arm. Don't mind the sharp looking teeth.]

[ There's this one particular fellow who has hounded her with question after question while seemingly "going the same way as her" and while Padmé has done her best to be polite and try to have him take the hint that she's not interested in his questions, he doesn't seem to clue in and has been a little stubborn to get rid of. It's especially the question about her underwear that causes her to shoot him a rather annoyed look, nearly missing the branch that she's trying to reach. ]
I don't really see how any of that is your business. Now if you'll excuse me.
[ The fact that he doesn't even seem to offer her help with trying to get this kitten down from the tree its got itself stuck in is also enough to make her roll her eyes at him. Sure, he has about a hundred questions to ask her but one of them isn't if she needs any help. Instead, he snaps a couple pictures of her and comments on how "cool" it is of her to be so willing to help a kitten out of a tree. Again, she's going to look a little flabbergasted at his choices in this situation.
A little help would probably be nice right about now? Especially since it looks like this "fan" she's somehow managed to get for herself doesn't seem the least bit interested in doing so. ]

That's the so-called power she's been given according to this military government upon her arrival here. Having been given a brief overview of just what that consists of and what she's able to do with it, Padmé has found herself here in Nonah curious about whether or not she's actually able to pass through walls... a more simpler way of putting it.
Which, from the looks of it? Might just come in handy what with another crowd coming down the street posed with questions and cameras and countless other things that was all just too much the first time around. So? No time like the present to see if this phasing stuff really works and, taking a deep breath, she braces her arms in front of her (just in case) and darts through the wall of the building she's standing by--
Only to completely bump into and maybe even almost knock over whoever it is on the other side of this wall. ]

Wow. Never thought I'd ever have to say this, but Florida is actually worse than I always imagined it'd be. I mean, how is that even possible?
[ Here in Heropa stands Reggie Mantle, all 6'3" of him, in the process of rolling up his shirt sleeves to his elbows now that he's already slung the leather jacket-style hoodie he showed up in over his shoulder. Atop his head is a brand new pair of sunglasses, though he's too busy squinting judgmentally at his surroundings to actually lower them over his eyes yet.
This isn't the same Reggie Mantle that resident imPorts have long since grown to know and hate, but some things never change.
The commotion is pretty impossible to ignore, though, but Reggie still doesn't actually get involved -- he's still barely even processed anything except for the most obvious, observable facts of his situation, the unreality of it not really sinking in yet. Right now, shit is just weird and way too hot. No, what he does instead is take advantage of the distracted crowd to get a large, free frozen yogurt from a stand which would otherwise have a huge line right about now, and sits himself down on a bench where he can watch this scene unfold as one might watch TV.
He shakes his head, scooping yogurt into his mouth and continuing with his out-loud train of thought: ]

[ If there is any singular, universal truth about Reggie Mantle, it's that he loves attention. He loves it, and does not seem put off at all by the people flocking around him to take his picture -- Reggie just grins and poses each time, not even questioning it. After all, why should he? This is awesome; finally he's getting the sort of recognition (not that he really gets for what, exactly) he deserves.
His temperament changes slightly when he starts getting hit by questions, though he's not so much indignant or uncomfortable the way other imPorts might feel in his position. He's not uncomfortable at all, in fact, but decides to be difficult for an entirely different reason. ]
You're kidding, right. What is this, like, your first day on the job? Because half those questions are complete garbage, I guarantee no one's gonna care. What you should do is start off interesting-- you know, work up to the boring, everyday questions once you actually got an audience. Hell, I know even I wouldn't read about some random guy talking about hot wings, even if he was as gorgeous as me.
But here, let me help you out. [ Because ultimately who is he to pass up a chance to talk about himself? That's just ridiculous. ] Reggie Mantle. I'm sixteen, single, captain of my high school's football team, and what I look for in a date is a big chest and a sense of humor.
[ He grins smugly, holding his arms out as if to say, See? Wasn't that better?, but then snaps his fingers and adds: ]

[Tina never imagined in her life that she'd be in another place, with superpowers, and yet still be working at a burger restaurant. And yet, here she was, wearing a burger suit that was similar to Gene's, trying to entice customers to come in and eat. However, she wasn't very good at it- she'd never been good with the PR side unless she was working with her siblings. But since the owner wasn't her father, he wasn't likely to take pity on Tina and bring her in to cook or clean instead.]
Burgers! Come get your burgers! And fries... they're... really good...
[She didn't have much success until she got bored standing there and decided to use her intangibility to pass herself and her sample tray through customers walking down the sidewalk. She soon regretted her decision, however, when word got around that a new imPort girl was working at the local burger joint and began hounding her. In response, Tina couldn't do much but let out a prolonged groaning noise.]

[ Arima isn't really couple counselor savvy, you know? But he can definitely get in there and subdue the man who is holding others hostage that's for sure. So if there's anyone nearby that looks like a foreigner he might turn to them. ]
If we use the back entrance or the roof access we might have a better chance of stopping him before he does something.
[ He's totally calm about the whole thing and even looks to be pondering how to go about it. Cold and calculated Arima at your service. ]

[ Arima will likely go after both, honestly, but right now he's surrounded by 4 large burly daises who all seem to eye him with what appears to be confidence that they'll win this fight. What they don't know is that Arima is used to fighting large, powerful and fast enemies, so even with his owl quinque being in the broken state that its in he'll dart forward as those daises try to grab him. Two quick slashes and two of them have lost their hands to the man now standing before them. He's really not even trying all that hard and they're still having difficulties catching him. His speed is somewhat inhuman despite his appearance and his strength is as well.
But even if he is winning help is always appreciated. ]

The nice thing about this power was, even if Duo wasn't much of a hand-to-hand guy, most people went down before they even knew he was there.]
[Maybe you have the same idea he does, take the guy out before he hurts someone- or maybe you're there to try the peaceful intervention route. Either way, when Duo notices he's not alone, he suddenly flickers into view before you where before there was nothing. There's a finger to his lips in a 'shh' gesture. His eyes flick towards the next couple aisles over, where the guy is holed up with his hostages, and he speaks up- he doesn't seem very concerned about the danger of being heard.] Got some kinda plan?

b) [Duo shadowed the crowd, listening in with a careful expression of nonchalance. Domestic dispute? Gee, talk about hitting close to home. He brushes shoulders with one of the commenters, who glances him over, and immediately notices the collar at his throat. Naturally, when you're dressed as a priest, people are going to make assumptions. Like that you're actually a priest, instead of a shotgun-toting bounty hunter- and that was how Duo found himself ushered forward out of the crowd and past police lines, implored to help bring this violent dispute to a peaceful end. After all, who better to make peace than a man of God?]
Uh-- I really don't think this is a good idea... [He protests, scanning the crowd for some sucker to drag in with him. Yeah, you'll do.] Hey, bud. How're you with good-cop-bad-cop?

Jolyne Cujoh | Jojo's Bizarre Adventure

[ Jolyne had no intention to stop and listen to the gossip; she's far too invested in her newfound freedom to go around doing nice things to random strangers. She ends up hearing the entire thing anyway, because people gossiping with outside voices are hard to tune out anyway. Peeking from the crowd, she can tell the whole situation won't end anytime soon. ]
What a pain, it's just like some fucker to go and ruin everyone's day...
[ She could give a hand, right? Just a bit to speed things up...
Extending a finger, Jolyne lets a couple of strings out, sneaking past the crowd as they quickly shoot into the building. The big glass windows make finding the culprit all the easier for Jolyne. Next thing you know, the strings are wrapping themselves around the man's neck and chest. It's just a matter of a hearty tug and the man comes out shooting through a window, falling right on the feet of several police offices. Jolyne's strings sneak back to her; for anyone without a Stand (or any sort of powers here, not that she knows this) the whole scene must be very bizarre, as her strings (and Stone Free, if he had chosen to manifest) are invisible. The man basically jumped himself all that distance for no apparent reason. ]
Well, that ought to do it.
[ Nodding at her handiwork, Jolyne turns around and walks away, hands resting behind her head. She's such a hero, isn't she? ]

Sighing, Jolyne lets Stone Free out... not that the reporters and randos around her can see the Stand floating around Jolyne. She doesn't need to say anything for it to understand. A moment later, Stone Free and picking people up and throwing them left and right. To the unpowered outsider it looks like they're suddenly capable of flying and they suck at it. ]

In one moment, she'll be tossing and cursing people out. In the next, she'll be away from the scene entirely. More accurately, she's been carried and moved from the middle of the street to around the corner. The reporters make aghast noises at her sudden disappearance, wondering where she could have went and don't seem to reason that she just went around the block. What they didn't see was Jotaro taking her and moving her during the freezing of time. To them, and her, it was just an instantaneous moment. He figures it's just easier this way - no one is harassing her anymore, and she's not injuring people. The latter worries him more... good grief, how did his daughter end up so violent?]
Stay quiet. They should disperse in a minute.
[His voice is hushed and he hopes she follows suit. So long as they have no reason to suspect she's near, they'll go on to the next person to bother. He wants to avoid questions about how he moved her without anyone seeing as well.]

[All she wanted was a Pepsi. Or a Coke. Or whatever soda she could get with the dollar she found. The brand wasn't really important. What was important, though, was the crowd in front of the grocery store. What on earth was going on here? Some kind of event?
...well, a hostage situation can be considered an event, of sorts. Utena sighs and considers just going home. The cops are here, right? They should be able to handle this guy better than she can. As she's about to walk away, though, something from the crowd stops her in her tracks:

Guilt and old memories make her change track, and while the cops try and corral the crowd, Utena slips by, and when another officer stops her all she has to do is flash her new dogtags. He waves her through, but right now, all she plans on doing is poking her head in to see what's going on. Literally. Utena takes a deep breath and braces her hands against the wall leans forward, phasing her body through just enough to take a look at what's going on.]
2. Maurtia Falls.
[Utena hates this city and the feeling's mutual. She breathes in deep and grips her umbrella as she marches through the streets, eager to get in and out as soon as possible. All she has to do is meet up with her friend, grab some flowers, and...
...oh, how convenient, the flowers are right in front of her, rampaging through the streets. She's not sure whether or not this is the strangest thing she's seen here, but you know what? It's at the top of the list. They haven't noticed her yet, but another person isn't so fortunate, and they're on the verge of receiving a large, leafy punch to the face. Well, Maurtia Falls may not want her help but they're getting it. Utena charges forward, aiming her umbrella like a lance towards dangerous daisy, focusing her powers to make it as hard and dangerous as possible.]

[Of all the Porter cities she's seen, Nonah might be her favorite. The worst she has to deal with is some nosy reporters and the weirdest thing she's seen is a guy eating pancakes in the middle of the street.
That said, she's not about to go out and take a seat. She stares at him, scratching the back of her head, before she notices someone else staring alongside her.]

[Now this is more Yosuke's speed. Kind of Tokyo and Tatsumi Port Island (minus the Love Hotel) and oh man that air. He breathes in deep oh yes he's in a city a real city. Those fumes you never forget them even after two years in the boondocks where car use is minimal unless the people are making large purchases at Junes or have a long way to travel for work.
He came to like Inaba just fine, but he's always going to be a city boy at heart. And in the last rays of day as the nightlife really starts to wake up he's reminded of all the sounds he missed when they moved. This place might not be Tokyo or any other city in Japan but it's similar enough that he can enjoy it for the moment. Even the man setting up the table blocking traffic only gets a quick look-
Wait what? Is he eating pancakes? Okay now he's really confused even in Japan that sort of behavior wouldn't be tolerated for more than a few seconds. But well if he's offering (and it looks like the man is as he moves closer) why not see how long it lasts and score some free food in the process. How could this possibly backfire?]

Yusuke weaved his way through the crowd to find that it was more than free drinks getting them riled up. Someone had set up a table with a mountain of pancakes, blocking the path of the drunken masses with a buttermilk Fiji. His stomach gargled in response, forcing him to clutch at his belly in distress. He struggled to remember the last time he ate. Yesterday afternoon, perhaps? He had spent the last of his money on a set of pastel chalk. This was an opportunity that has to be seized. There was no time for subtlety!]

[You have to look closely or you might miss it, but a small person in all black slips past the crowd and into the grocery store. A few seconds after her infiltration, there's the sound of a (very) brief scuffle, and then silence. A moment later and that deranged boyfriend comes sliding across the floor and out the automatic doors, very much unconscious.
You might also notice the small person escaping out a small window near the back of the building and scrambling toward the rooftops, very much trying to avoid the crowd.]

[ When she says it, she's already leaning against a wall with a cigarette out and lit. Did she pose before speaking up? Yes. Does she do exactly this every damn time it's that time of the month and a bunch of poor fucks are getting imPorted in? Somehow, yes.
But it works. The crowd is instantly distracted from the little black bat, and towards the goth rocker who just showed up. There's a clamoring for autographs, with questions of their own, and vying for selfies. They really don't seem to care that she just called them vultures or is only answering questions with "uh huh" "nuh uh" and "fuck you."
Next to Cassandra, a few unnatural looking vines are quietly lifting a manhole cover and sliding it off to the side. One will even politely tap her ankle, if she doesn't notice the movement herself. ]

Sandor Clegane - The Hound | Game of Thrones
After his arrival, Sandor Clegane spent well over a day roaming his new surroundings with a scowl seemingly etched permanently on his face. Not that the expression was any different from when the once bodyguard to King Joffrey was travelling Westeros with the youngest Stark girl in town. Some things never change.
Suffice it to say, there wasn't one person that the Hound crossed paths with that didn't receive a demeaning insult, or, a threat that left no question of its credibility. That truthfulness was quite evident in the man's disfigured face.
When Sandor arrived in De Chima, it wasn't long before the crowds assembled around him, eager to take pictures and ask him questions. It took one foolish idiot to ask one too many before the Hound's hand was clamped firmly around his throat before lifting up until feet were dangling off the ground.
If no one stopped him, this man was seconds short of losing consciousness.

The temptation to dash away was almost too strong to ignore but she was soon propelling herself towards the group instead. Murmuring softly, she nudged her way through the press of bodies until she was on the inside of the half-formed circle and could see why everyone sounded worried. Not that she knew what to say at first because the sight of the large man in the familiar armor had a way of sucking the air right out of her long, all while sending a chill through her at the same time.
"The Hound." Her voice was barely a whisper, lost in the noise around her as she stared at him. She knew it was him too because she could see the side of his disfigured face, unsurprisingly caught in the middle of the sneer that he was aiming at the man he was holding off his feet.
Giving herself a mental shake, she took another step forward. "Ser Clegane!"
