TEST DRIVE MEME

Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!

Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!

01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.

02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.

03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!

04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

Supey, dude, do we really have to go through this? I am from the past. Or have amnesia. Either way it's like totally cool and I have come to terms with my chronological condition. So. [He makes a grand sweeping gestures with his arms.] Onward with more pressing matters or whatever.

[KF drops his arms to his side. That's...different. From usual. What with certain people around here not wanting to tell him shit.]

Okay. Well, uh. [He rubs the back of his neck.] Last thing I remember is the Reds attacking the base. But Robin brought me up to speed all the way up to the Europe thing with the circus you guys went to do, so. I'm not really...y'know, I know about that stuff. [And about what Artemis did, not that he's going to go into it unless someone ties him down and threatens him with torture.] But I appreciate it, dude. [He pats Conner on the arm with a grin.]

[European Circus? Sounded like Robin was in his future too.

He really doesn't give a crap about breaking the timeline. Something has to be broken already or KF would know. Plus, he really didn't like it when Kaldur kept the truth from him. Despite the fresh pain of finding out about Match and Luthor, he feels guilty about not telling anyone.]

There's something else. Something I haven't told anyone. [Pause. Superboy doesn't have to say everything just yet. There are things he hasn't quite processed yet.] The reason I don't have all of Superman's powers is because I'm part human. And I have an older brother.

[superboy every time you go missing and then return to your team you have some new bombshell to drop on them are you realizing that]

[KF gapes a little bit before folding his arms and leaning back, as if in the face of a strong breeze.]

That is. One hell of a revelation. Okay. So you have more family than just the Big Guy. [Who is still on KF's shit list and there he will probably remain until he stops being such a fuckup in regards to mentoring SB.] Hopefully they're more receptive...?

[No? Maybe it's because there's so much he doesn't know about himself.]

Match tried to kill me when I attempted to rescue him from Cadmus. Apparently he's full Kryptonian and it made him entirely insane. They had to put him back on ice. [His fist clenches until the knuckles turn white. Superboy is not okay with that at all.]

And my human DNA belongs to...Luthor. [Y e p.

That's his family.]

Well, you just missed virtual paintball. With real fake death.

I've had enough of real fake death type of situations so I'll be glad that I missed out on that one.

[Wally rubs his face and looks down at Wolf.] So, do you have anything to add? Are you actually a bunch of cats operating a giant wolf mech? Or not a natural blond or something?

Now you're just talking crazy, Kid. [He pats Wally on the shoulder lightly before heading off in the direction KF was trying to get him to go earlier. Wolf fixes Wally with a look before following Superboy.]

They didn't exactly tell us about that part. I mean, I was suspicious going in, but...

[ Robin shrugs in a "could've been worse" kind of way. ]

I'm talking crazy, [KF mutters into his hands before shaking his head and jogging after Conner. He pulls up to his other side and matches his pace.]

Okay. Well, I mean, in the grand scheme of things it's not that big a deal. I mean, what are genes anyhow? Just amino acids arranged in a way that determines like, eye color and whatever. You're very obviously not bald so you probably take after Supes more than...y'know, the other guy. [just say luthor kf he's not like beetlejuice you can't summon him or anything]

Except that Luthor actually wants something to do with me. [Unlike Superman.] Or he just wants something from me.

As Toboe is petted, he sits down, tail wagging and tongue lolling out of his mouth happily. He has always loved petting which means he is as tame as he can get; Granny raised him well, after all.

But when Conner tells him to move, Toboe is still not sure if he should. The pup looks around, hoping to see a familiar face and feel a familiar scent, but he knows there is no one or he'd have spotted them by now.

Ears lower for a moment and eventually he turns to look at Wolf. Though he has had problems with other wolves who weren't from his pack, he knows they weren't evil or mean; wolves stick together, right? And since the other doesn't seem to be aggressive towards Toboe and his owner (?) doesn't smell "wrong", the red wolf gets up and walks after the pair.

He really wants to speak to Wolf, though. But if he speaks, Conner will listen Toboe, since (wolf's rain) wolves and humans speak the same language. And it's better not to try that out ]

[THAT IS A LIE. Besides, he was grown in a test tube.

Either this wolf has had a lot of human interaction or Toboe is smarter than he looks because most don't act this friendly. That just makes Conner want to protect him that much more because not everyone is as nice as he is towards wild animals.

Wolf slows his steps until he's walking next to Toboe and from this angle it would easy to see the places where the skin has been ripped until the muscle underneath shows. These are located where the legs meet the body. Despite that, it doesn't seem to cause Wolf any pain.

When they get outside, Wolf gives Conner a meaningful look. In response he nods.] I'm heading back in. Howl if you need me.

[With that he moves back into the crowd in search for people he might know. Wolf pads off in a direction where there don't seem to be many humans and after a few feet, he looks back to see if Toboe is coming.]
