TEST DRIVE MEME
Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!
Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!
And remember to have fun!01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.
02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.
03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!
04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

Oh, for the love of...
[He lifts both hands into the air, palms facing Hal and fingers spread.]
Hi. Totally not evil, by the way. Can we talk?
[Just once, he'd like for a Green Lantern to talk first, and use their rings later... but then again, they weren't exactly chosen for their powers of negotiation, were they?]
no subject
However he can't just leave him here in case he was wrong.]
Keep your hands in the air. I'm going to cuff you and then we're going to walk away from these civilians and then we'll talk.

Last time I checked, people are innocent until proven guilty, [he objects, though it's quiet at best. The idea of letting someone bigger and stronger than he is cuffing him and dragging him off makes his skin crawl, but it's the easiest option right now. The Scarab is buzzing angrily in his ear - do not let the Green Lantern immobilize us these are your current options ranging from concussive force to electrical energy to nuclear-- - but he ignores it.
He doesn't say anything else but he keeps his hands in the air, not breaking eye-contact with Hal, waiting for him to do what he feels he has to do.]

[The more he thinks about it the less sense this makes. He's already seen one Lantern lose their ring for killing a member of the Sinestro Corps who had already surrendered so why is his ring insisting he do the same thing here?
The only thing he does is cuff his wrists before he's leading them above and away from the crowd. It's not until they're no longer in sight of land that he drops the cuffs, but keeps them both in the air with a simple application of will. It's a risk, but he's trusting his instincts on this.]
Alright. Explain.

Your ring's telling you that I'm evil, 'cause the tech I'm using is from one of your guys' enemies - these guys called the Reach. Every one of you have attacked me on sight, so the cuffs are actually an improvement. [He huffs a sigh, then adds on,] I actually helped you guys take them down, not that long ago.
[A little hopefully, he asks,] Maybe Guy's mentioned the Blue Beetle before...?
no subject
Now if John or Kyle or literally any other Green Lantern had been mentioned, he'd have relaxed a bit. But Guy? While Hal had to admit that Guy knew what he was doing, he was Guy.]
Guy isn't exactly a ringing endorsement. Do you know any other gl?

[He trails off once he rubs more than two brain cells together and thinks about Guy and everything that he entails. He rubs his forehead.]
Never mind, stupid question. Uh, I met this blue lady once, but that doesn't do me much good either. Weren't you the other white Green Lantern on the Justice League? [It's not the most subtle way to say it, but as far as he's concerned, the Earth Lanterns are separated by White Guy and Black Guy, and unless he meets them in person, don't ask him which white guy is which.] I worked with Batman. Does that count for something, or is he not good enough for you either?
