TEST DRIVE MEME
Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!
Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!
And remember to have fun!01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.
02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.
03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!
04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

[Aya turned, expecting familiarity...and was greeted by a strange, if still friendly face. The disappointment in her eyes was apparent, if fleeting. Concealing emotions was a skill she had yet to master, having only recently come into understanding the strange sensations swirling within her systems, and her face showed that. Confusion. Contemplation. Glimmers of theoretical probabilities.]
[Florida did not register to her, but Earth did. Sector 2814. The home world of one Hal Jordan, who had only recently relinquished his assignment to another in favor of joining the Honor Guard. Now, it was overseen by a...a....]
[She couldn't recall the name, either. In fact, she could not recall much else besides the faces of her loved ones. Including one she was definitely not seeing now.]
Who are you?
[Audio Synchronicity. It was the only explanation. Just as she bore a physical resemblance to a memory...albeit by personal choice...it was not improbable for there to be unrelated individuals to sound so similar.]

KF slings an arm around her shoulders.] Came in the same way you did, though. So I guess you could say we were practically destined to meet. Plus, that? [He points at the symbol on her chest.] Familiar with that. I have a couple Green Lanterns on my planet back home.

[...in a manner of speaking; for all that Aya didn't react to the sudden physical contact, her expression noticeably lifted when he indicated a knowledge of the Green Lantern Corps. It was the first sign towards familiarity she had been given.]
What is your planet of origin?

[Force of habit. She had spent a good portion of her early existence "reminding" her colleagues that she was one of them. The fact that this Kid Flash individual had already recognized her as such did little to lessen the habit.]
Planet Earth exists in Sector 2814. That was Hal Jordan's assigned sector--are you familiar with him?

Very well.
[There was a noticeable warmth to her tone the more she spoke of Hal Jordan. Nearly parallel to how a young girl would speak of the father she idolized so dearly.]
Since the moment I was first brought online, I have spent the majority of my existence "playing space cop or whatever" with him. [Was she teasing his choice of phrasing? With Aya, it was often difficult to tell.] Although we referred to it more as performing out sworn duties. I believe you would consider him to be my...mentor as well.

Oh babe, you're practically a protege! You are in like company. [KF pulls his arm off of her to stick out his hand.] Official introductions are necessary. I'm Kid Flash of Earth, fastest boy alive. And you're...?

Aya.
[She glanced down at his hand, and it took a moment to process that he was attempting to initiate a handshake; Her metallic glove hesitantly slipped into his grip, and Wally may or may not be surprised to find that, while the metal of her palm was expectantly cool, the "skin" of her exposed fingers was quite warm.]
It is a pleasure to meet you, Kid Flash of Earth.

Her hand is kind of clunky with the huge palm and the tiny fingers, but they manage and Kid's grin grows a little.]
Cool. Nice to meet you too, Aya of the Green Lantern Corps. You still want that tour?

A preliminary patrol of our current surroundings would be highly beneficial, thank you.

My systems do not require food or drink to refuel, no. [Since he asked; she would have been content to listen to him explain regardless of level of importance to her, personally.] Nor do I require sleep cycles. Beyond extenuating circumstances, I am capable of indefinite self-recharging.
[Something which Aya had never really questioned, because it was precisely the same as how a Lantern Battery worked. Should she run out of energy, she would fall into stasis mode. Then, it would only be a matter of time. Otherwise, she was good to go.]
What of the other ten percent?

Date?

[Aya was young and often naive in the ways of certain cultural social expectations. This was one occasion, however, when she knew better than to accept such an explanation at face-value. Her expression mirrored that sentiment.]
I have never found much humor in the purpose misleading of others. Particularly involving a personal occasion that is meant to be mutually agreed upon by both parties before establishing as such.

[Hal was her go-to person for just about anything, anyway.]
[Strange enough, the moment that was settled, Aya's expression softened back into the pleasant smile it had worn not a moment prior. All traces of possible annoyance or exasperation--not that there had been much to start--were gone.]
Shall we continue on the tour?
I would be most interested in hearing about this city's defense systems.

You're lookin' at 'em. [Wally gestures to himself, points out a couple other people in uniform. Not too many people choose superhero identities though, it's strange.] Aside from normal military and Coast Guard stuff, it's really just people like you and me. At least, that's what they told us. We're here to keep people safe.

Interesting.
May I ask what is lacking in their military systems that they saw need to "kidnap" individuals such as ourselves?

And the enemy?

Is that our primary objective? To obtain information?
...I have succeeded in similar missions in the past. [Well, she got caught, and was severely damaged, but she did get them the data. So that counted as a success.]
