TEST DRIVE MEME
Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!
Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!
And remember to have fun!01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.
02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.
03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!
04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

He bypassed the crowd, he had learned to avoid attention when he didn't want it by covering the tattoo, at the moment he had something more important to do. Why everyone seemed so determined on calling him a hero, Rufus wasn't quite sure yet but at the moment, his lips quirked as he caught sight of the man watching over the top of a newspaper.
It didn't take him long to make his way over, simply taking a seat beside the other man without bothering to ask permission, he saw no reason. "What a surprise, if I may say so," he commented after a moment as if commenting on the weather, his blue eyes remaining on the crowd for a moment before looking at Reeve.

"Or were you referring to me being here and being willing to help? They need it, and while I'm no fighter I am rather good at other things. I can easily get their energy production efficiency doubled in a matter of months if they listen to me."
no subject
"Oh? I would be curious to hear what you've managed to learn about the infrastructure here," he commented, raising an eyebrow. His first impressions weren't as optimistic though, though not it wasn't exactly an impossible situation.

It had also taught him to keep his head down and his eyes open for opportunities.
"Which part? The way they run politics makes almost no sense and the corporate side of things is nearly entirely separate. They also have completely different leaders for each of hundreds of different countries and there are just as many languages to deal with as well." He paused, and laughed. "It's ridiculous, really."

"It is, I agree with you but I would look to who controls the majority of the resources on this planet. There many be many countries but in reality, it's only a few who hold the power," Rufus said thoughtfully as he turned his eyes back to where Cait Sith was entertaining the crowd. It at least distracted attention away from them so they could talk without interruption.

It may have been rude, and if it had been a few years earlier for Reeve or they were still on Gaia where he needed the funding Rufus was willing to give he'd have phrased it differently.
"I am, however, not your enemy here. Unless you want to make one of me, which I think you are also too smart to do." He sent a sideways glance at the younger man, all pretenses of affable eccentricity dropping away for a moment. "I know how to hide within the system from the system. I also know how to work my way up from expendable grunt reading blueprints to being the one keeping society from falling apart while changing it for the better. These people know more about us than Tseng and Veld combined, and I don't trust it. We should stick together, keep our heads down and listen until we know more. Start at the bottom."

His gaze sharpened at that, leaning back against the park bench. "I see no reason to make an enemy of you, Reeve, as I'm sure you realize the same," he commented. He knew better than to take Reeve at face value- he may not have been Scarlett or Heidigger but he had still managed to not only survive working on the upper floors but to do well. "Then that is what we'll do. It does trouble me they have access to such thorough information but we will gather our resources."
