we're all reponsible here

TEST DRIVE MEME
Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!

Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!

And remember to have fun!

    01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.

    02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.

    03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!

    04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

It wasn't terribly difficult to notice Cait Sith posing for photos and entertaining the crowd. But Rufus ShinRa knew where the cat was, the man behind the controls wouldn't be too far away and that was who he was looking for.

He bypassed the crowd, he had learned to avoid attention when he didn't want it by covering the tattoo, at the moment he had something more important to do. Why everyone seemed so determined on calling him a hero, Rufus wasn't quite sure yet but at the moment, his lips quirked as he caught sight of the man watching over the top of a newspaper.

It didn't take him long to make his way over, simply taking a seat beside the other man without bothering to ask permission, he saw no reason. "What a surprise, if I may say so," he commented after a moment as if commenting on the weather, his blue eyes remaining on the crowd for a moment before looking at Reeve.

Reeve laughed lightly, setting newspaper aside. "Is it? There have always been theories of there being other inhabited worlds besides our own, this isn't much of a stretch even if a great deal of it doesn't seem to work the same as back home." He smiled, shifting the focus of his attention from Cait Sith's antics to Rufus.

"Or were you referring to me being here and being willing to help? They need it, and while I'm no fighter I am rather good at other things. I can easily get their energy production efficiency doubled in a matter of months if they listen to me."

"I have no doubt as to that, as your work with the WRO has been admirable to say the least," Rufus commented thoughtfully but he was watching Reeve's reaction as his blue eyes met Reeve's. He had heard mention that the porter could cross time with bringing others from the same world, it was something which intrigued Rufus.

"Oh? I would be curious to hear what you've managed to learn about the infrastructure here," he commented, raising an eyebrow. His first impressions weren't as optimistic though, though not it wasn't exactly an impossible situation.

Reeve simply hummed lightly, noncommittal. "It seems I don't have to call you President then, good. I wasn't looking forward to telling you ShinRa collapsed and the world nearly ended three times. The WRO and I are working with what we have to fix what's left and make sure things don't fall apart any more than they already have." He admitted, shifting to cross his legs. "I work with what I have, it's something working for ShinRa for most of my life taught me."

It had also taught him to keep his head down and his eyes open for opportunities.

"Which part? The way they run politics makes almost no sense and the corporate side of things is nearly entirely separate. They also have completely different leaders for each of hundreds of different countries and there are just as many languages to deal with as well." He paused, and laughed. "It's ridiculous, really."

"What working at ShinRa during the reign of my father taught you, that is." That answered those questions but Rufus' gaze became sharp though he didn't correct Reeve, not for the moment at least. As soon as he survived, he intended that ShinRa would always endure. But there was time to go over that later, Rufus still had to put the pieces together here. His comment was a reminder to Reeve that he would always do things differently, that any assumptions based off what his father might have done would be a mistake.

"It is, I agree with you but I would look to who controls the majority of the resources on this planet. There many be many countries but in reality, it's only a few who hold the power," Rufus said thoughtfully as he turned his eyes back to where Cait Sith was entertaining the crowd. It at least distracted attention away from them so they could talk without interruption.

"Things didn't change that much in the few months you had, Rufus. You're too smart to be that naïve about the rest of the company." Reeve said bluntly, taking a sip of his milkshake. "You're also too smart to be unaware that neither of us have any sway here, we're new and have nothing but our charms and talents to get us anywhere."

It may have been rude, and if it had been a few years earlier for Reeve or they were still on Gaia where he needed the funding Rufus was willing to give he'd have phrased it differently.

"I am, however, not your enemy here. Unless you want to make one of me, which I think you are also too smart to do." He sent a sideways glance at the younger man, all pretenses of affable eccentricity dropping away for a moment. "I know how to hide within the system from the system. I also know how to work my way up from expendable grunt reading blueprints to being the one keeping society from falling apart while changing it for the better. These people know more about us than Tseng and Veld combined, and I don't trust it. We should stick together, keep our heads down and listen until we know more. Start at the bottom."

Rufus looked amused at the mention of having nothing but their charms to get them by in this world. It wasn't going to stop him from taking advantage of what he could, to start shaping things the way he wanted them to. It would take patience, something he hadn't had when he first took over.

His gaze sharpened at that, leaning back against the park bench. "I see no reason to make an enemy of you, Reeve, as I'm sure you realize the same," he commented. He knew better than to take Reeve at face value- he may not have been Scarlett or Heidigger but he had still managed to not only survive working on the upper floors but to do well. "Then that is what we'll do. It does trouble me they have access to such thorough information but we will gather our resources."
