TEST DRIVE MEME

Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!

Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!

01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.

02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.

03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!

04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

[He'd laugh, because he really doesn't really feel like moving, but he's pretty sure laughing would actually hurt right now and he holds it back.]

I think I am? [Getting superpowers from someone else has these issues: Just how much of his grandfather's strength did he got? Does Isaiah have the same strength the current Captain America has? Could Captain America have stopped the car and end up uninjured? So many questions, sometimes you just had to jump in front of a car and hope for the best.]

I mean, I can breathe so no punctured lungs- are the kids alright?

[ He glances over at the kids to see them getting pulled aside finally by some locals. They look shaken, but otherwise fine. ]

They're safe. [ Gil can hear sirens wailing louder and louder as they approach the scene, and suddenly the doors of the car burst open, two men scrambling out from either side. ] What the — ?!

[ In all the commotion, he had forgotten the driver and passenger were likely fleeing the scene of a crime. ]

We miiiiiight want to leave. [He doesn't outright dislike police officers, but there's a reason he took up what's basically vigilantism... and he knows by experience how sidetracked they can get when there's a hero around.]

Can you help me out?

[ He's about to ask if they should be going after the men escaping since they're the source of this commotion, but he catches himself before he can say anything. He can hardly believe either he was about to suggest something... something one of those superheroes would do. How much of this world has gotten to him already?

Luckily, the police cut the two escapees off before they can get too far. Their guns are drawn and both men back down with hands raised.

While that's unfolding, Gil leans over to offer his arm to Eli, getting one just around his waist. ]

This might be uncomfortable, but bear with me for a little bit.

[Eli takes the arm, knowing better than to ignore any possible injuries. He'll heal fast and shrug any kind of help he might need, but he has to make sure he hasn't suffered any possible lethal injuries first.]

Let's just get somewhere I can hide until I heal.

[ He nods and takes advantage of the confusion in the crowd to slip past everyone with Eli and down the street, looking for an alleyway to tuck themselves into until Eli... heals apparently.

He's seen so many things since he's been out of his own universe and it all manages to surprise him continuously. ]

You're not... one of those superheroes?

[ They don't usually avoid police, do they? ]

[He looks down at his clothes.] I'd... think the suit was kind of a give away.

Do normal people wear a mask often around here?

[ Gil stares for a moment before averting his eyes, cheeks glowing red with embarrassment. ]

Superheroes... vigilantes...

Whatever you call yourselves.

[ He's certain only vigilantes run from the scene of a crime, though. ]

Anyway, are you alright?
