TEST DRIVE MEME

Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!

Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!

01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.

02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.

03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!

04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

[Typically, Jaime's interactions with Green Lanterns have a history of going incredibly poorly. Despite the whole keeping peace throughout the universe thing, they have a funny tendency to attack him on sight.

Still, when the Scarab starts bugging out - no pun intended - about not only another Green Lantern being found in the area, but a mechanical one... well, there's no way that's not going to get his interest.]

It's a place called Florida, [Jaime says, hoping that his presence isn't going to be a problem.] Which is on Earth, in case you were wondering.

[Fortunately for Jaime...or maybe unfortunately, depending upon how things went...Aya was not your "typical" Green Lantern.]

[Just as the Scarab was registering her unusual existence, so was Aya getting very strange readings on her scanner the moment he (they) approached. Enough to genuinely confuse her.]

Interesting.

[One word. Spoken in three syllables. Its meaning could have referred to just about anything right then.]

I do not recall traveling all the way to Sector 2814. I do not even recall returning recently to Guardian Space.

None of us do. I mean, some of us are from, uh... Sector 28-whatever-4, but nobody actually traveled here on purpose.

[Guardian Space? Sector what and what now? Jaime hadn't known that space had all these designations, but now that he thinks on it, it makes sense.

He just can't see Guy bothering to remember all this junk.]

They didn't give you the whole spiel back there?

I was briefly informed of the basic necessities. However, a majority of this information did not apply to me.

[As basic necessities were...well...unnecessary]

I guess they wouldn't be, [Jaime says slowly. Right. Robot. She probably didn't need to listen to all that stuff about where to find everything regular old humans need to live.]

Basically, they've ported you into their own universe as... I dunno, some sort of emergency resource? And nobody's been able to find a way back yet.

[Jaime shoves his hands into his pockets, considering that he could have phrased that a bit better. Still, it's the truth - she'd need to find out about it sooner rather than later, right?]

[It was mainly the latter part of that statement that brought about concern. Aya was familiar with the idea of recruitment. How many planets had they traveled to where the assistance of Green Lanterns (or, really, anybody they could find) were required?]

[This was what she was meant to do, after all. It would have been nice if they'd asked first, sure, but she would not hold such desperation against them.]

Would it not be possible to simply reverse the process that brought us here as a means of departure?
