TEST DRIVE MEME

Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!

Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!

01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Flordia sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.

02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.

03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!

04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

I do not think it should be a question about your fortune of seeing the Strong Arm Alchemist! Once again! In one piece! [ Hell, he's not even questioning his fortune regarding that either after being transported here. ]

I've been eating fine! Al and Winry are here too, so they make sure I eat.

[Which is all for the good, with how easily Ed gets lost in his research sometimes, he needs their poking distractions of food to remind him to eat when he barely notices how much time has passed.]

Of course! Return to the ground, Edward! [ Plop. Edward will return to standing on the sidewalk with no enjoy besides his embarrassment at how easily Armstrong can just dominate people physically. ]

I am glad to see you are still with your brother and your lovely lady! Both of them are caring and observant enough to make sure you aren't getting into too much trouble! [ He knows what you get up to when you're given an inch, Edward. ]

My lov--what? She's...she's just a friend! Why are you implying--? [Well. Armstrong might not really have been implying anything but. Ed's still spluttering anyway at the implication of Winry being 'his'. Because not so secret or obvious crush is really. Not all that secret at all. And never was.]

Who said anything about me being in any trouble here? [He hasn't. Somehow. Yet.]

[ Um... what? But, he knows. Everyone knows. It was how they... Armstrong shakes off the thought and just glances at Edward in astounded confusion. They definitely were a couple of some sort.

However, Armstrong doesn't exactly want to push the envelope. Enraging Edward is the last of his desires right now. It'd be the cherry on top with all the uncertainty. ]

Um, I am talking about Winry! She's quite the lovely woman after all. Her kindness and talent with automail has been renowned by even our own affluent family! [ they big fans, ok? ]

My apologies. I was just referring from memory. The last time you guys were under my supervision, it was right after you were almost killed by a serial killer. And then you guys visited the Fifth Laboratory without permission and despite our warnings... [ He only cares for your wellbeing Edward. If you aren't going to be aware of the trouble you cause, he'll at least tell you about it. Like, gurrrrl, gurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrl. ]

Winry is just a friend! I mean, of course I have to protect her! I told her to leave Amestris but she wouldn't listen.

[No he is not flailing and tomato-red at all here. And no, he can't really. Deny that he and Al snuck off to the lab because that definitely was a thing that happened.]

Well, we weren't sure if you might miss something so figured it best if we went and checked it out for ourselves. Seems getting anywhere near those Porters will be harder though.

How can she leave her country when her childhood friends she takes care of are running around in a dangerous country? [ Besides, he's not sure if Winry would get far away from Amestris. He thinks, at best, she'd be routed back because she's a ~loved one~ of a ~sacrifice~. He's aware that Roy's crew is under very similar circumstances. ]

You could have at least waited so one of us could come along with you. [ Although lbr, those homunculi would've killed anyone else there who wasn't an alchemist so it's not like there's flawed reasoning here. ] Now as for those Porters, with enough plotting and skill we could easily get near it. We've done harder things to protect our great nation! [ Like overthrow the government! ]

I hoped to at least make sure she would be safe and out of the way if we--if things don't work out.

[Because Ed isn't cocky or arrogant enough to assume guaranteed victory at the Promised Day. But regardless, none of that really matters since Winry was stubborn and refused.

Besides, that last totally distracts him when Armstrong actually seem. Willing to go along with an idea of trying to figure out more on the Porters. Rather than vehemently being against it like laboratory five.]

Wait, you're not....going to stop me if I come up with an idea?
