The Mistletoe Meme

It was a quiet moment in Heropa, FL, when the next devious plot of an unknown organization was realized. With the holiday season upon all the town, bundles of mistletoe with interference technology hidden in the festive bows and pins holding them together was distributed throughout the town and into all the residences of the imPorts.

The interference technology creates a stasis field keeping imPorts trapped underneath it, protecting the mistletoe itself with a small barrier. However, it only seems able to hold two people at a time, and and the reaction of the nanites to sudden changes in chemistry brought on by embracing or kissing brings the stasis field crashing down, leaving the mistletoe vulnerable to destruction at that time.

It's up to you, imPorts, to break free of these mistletoe traps and destroy all the mistletoe in Heropa!

... You're one of Sasha's housemates, aren't you?

[ Yeah. Her shopping really could've waited until this has blown over, but... Nope. Here she is.

Presumably with a friend of Sasha's, so at least the degree of separation isn't too wide. After a moment's thought, though, she's not sure why she noted that. It's not like it makes things less odd. ]

Y-yeah. I'm Laurie. You're a friend of hers?

A comrade... yes.

[ Friend is a strong word. It's one that would make Sasha uncomfortable, she feels, given what lies between them. ]

I'm Annie.

[ Introductions make it slightly less awkward... right. ]

Hi, Annie. [ Said nervously, of course. Laurie's still socially awkward at the best of times, even with people that she knows. Trapped under super-mistletoe with a friend (well, comrade) of a friend?

Yeah. Awkward, right? And she totally doesn't know how to best proceed. Should they just go for it? Should she just keep biding her time? ]

Nice to meet you.

[ Sort of. She brushes her hair back off her face, looking sideways up at Laurie. ]

Do we want to get this over with? I'm sure we both have other things we'd rather be doing after we destroy this bunch of mistletoe.

[ Because like hell is she letting this pass undisturbed. ]

Oh, um. Sure. Okay.

[ Cue another moment of hesitation before Laurie smiles, quick and stiff, and leans forward to kiss the other girl on the cheek. Simple enough, right? ]

S-sorry. Is that good enough?

[ Annie reaches out, testing if the field has collapsed. To her relief... IT HAS!!!

At least for the moment (who knows how long that will last). ]

Looks like it - but we have to get that thing down before it activates again. I'm not sure how long that -

[ ... it activates again, even as she's tossing an apple at the tied bunch. The apple bounces off the mistletoe's forcefield, falling back down to the floor where Annie can't presently reach. ]

Oh. [ Well, that wasn't very long at all. ] Will we have time to hit it, if we just do the same, or...?

[ Pardon her while her face gets redder. Like... Is it more effective to full-on, really kiss? Is that the evil scheme going on here? ]

We can see. We'll be prepared this time. How's your throwing arm?

[ Annie hands her one of the apples she had in her basket. ]

Dead, mostly. [ Ha... ha. Get it? 'Cause that's actually the truth. It's dead. She's constantly wearing one glove to cover up the fact. She's decent with her left hand, though, especially now, so that's the hand that takes the apple. ] I'll try, though.

[ Aaaand, yeah. Definitely stalling on making the next move, but maybe she can blame that on wanting to make sure they're ready. ]

Trying's all I ask.

[ Laurie that means it's not your throwing arm any more but yes that gets a look... is Annie supposed to take that seriously? Does it matter?

... Yes and no. This time Annie leans up and toward Laurie, pressing her lips against her cheek. Laurie's going to have the edge for that first throw, with Annie letting go of her own apple shortly there-after. ]

[ Try she does. Attempting to not be any more flustered by all this kissing business, Laurie tosses the apple at the mistletoe with some attempt as putting force behind it. The plant is clipped, at least. If that didn't do it, Annie's aim seems better.

She waits for a moment, unsure if the problem is solved just like that, before reaching her good hand out and taking an experimental step to the side. ]

Welp. It seems alright now.

Um... Thanks?

[ Annie's apple hits close to dead (heh) center. It should be enough to keep the mistletoe down - something sure as heck sparked after the two apples had hit - and it slowly starts to smoke.

... Good work, ladies. ]

... No problem. Keep an eye out for those things.

[ ... they're everywhere. Annie squints up at the remains of this one, then takes a step back, turning to go back to her business at large. Or small. Or just right, whichever size her business was today! ]
