01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Florida sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.

02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.

03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!

04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

Equally as bad? That's like saying being an overachiever is as bad as being an underachiever. It's patently untrue.]

[He adjusts his glasses.]

Besides which, at home, you were thankfully departing that foolish current job of yours. So you haven't that as an excuse.

[mightiswright]

( So says the overachiever. )

[ Edgeworth's words give him pause though. it's true that they were close to finally uncovering all the pieces of the puzzle that had been hidden for 7 years now, after the Misham trial came underway. someone hopeful might have said that it would be the end of Phoenix's career as a poker player, but Edgeworth wasn't one to express optimism as fact. ]

...That's funny, because last I remember, I had no plans for leaving my 'foolish current job'. [ there's something very off here and he has a feeling it has everything to do with them being pulled into some strange world. ] Edgeworth. You said you've been here a week. Mind telling me what this place is?

[glassinine]

[Edgeworth turns fully to look at Wright. His brows are drawn together in worry. He's been working with Wright for months now to get his badge reinstated; indeed, one of the things that kept Edgeworth calm when he was brought here was the knowledge that everything was in place for Wright to begin work once again. If he's suddenly losing his nerve -

But Wright's asked another question; Edgeworth falters slightly as he answers distractedly:]

It's...a city in Florida. In a Florida from a different dimension. All quite strange and outside the bounds of what we know of physics...Wright, what do you mean you had no plans? That was not what you said the last time I saw you.

[mightiswright]

When was the last time you saw me?

[ and because he has a hunch, even if it shouldn't make any sense at all... it's the only reasonable conclusion he can come to, for why he would be leaving his current job and why Edgeworth would be involved. ] How long after the Misham trial?

[glassinine]

How long?

[Realization starts to dawn.]

It has been...seven months.

[mightiswright]

[ seven months. god. how things must have changed in seven months. ]

I don't know how, but you're seven months ahead of me. [ he'll let his friend arrive at the right conclusion on his own, while he relaxes in his seat. ]

( In seven months, I'll be leaving my job, huh? That's a good sign. )

[glassinine]

[Edgeworth is quiet a moment. It had not occurred to him that people could be pulled here from his past - but that is merely logical, isn't it? He has arrived at a different point in time from his own; why could the effects of time travel not also go the other way?

Finally, he speaks. He tries hard to sound breezy, casual - but it's Edgeworth, so that just means that he sounds slightly less grim than usual.]

Well. My apologies. It seems I've spoiled some surprises waiting for you in the near future.

[mightiswright]

[ if he didn't know Edgeworth as well as he did... well, he did so Phoenix can see that he's making an effort at least. ]

No need to apologize. You just gave me a teaser for a show I think I'm going to enjoy. ( A show that I've been looking forward to for a long time. )

But it looks like we're both going to have to find our way home first.

[glassinine]

[That first comment earns Phoenix a very faint smile of approval. The second, however, makes that smile fade into something quietly troubled.]

The military officials here have claimed that they're working to understand the technology that has brought us here, with the implication that they will reverse the process once they have.

[A beat.]

I will confess that I do not precisely believe this claim.

[mightiswright]

( That wasn't the impression I got from my little welcome. )

I have a few thoughts of my own on that... but let's hear what you have to say first. You've been here longer than I have, after all.

[glassinine]

What I have to say consists largely of commentary about the fact that they've a vested interest in keeping us here. We're a great resource to them; they'll not let us go casually, without any protest.

[mightiswright]

That's the impression I got.

[ he holds up his folder. ] Otherwise why go to all this effort? I can't imagine superpowers are a dime a dozen.

[glassinine]

[A short nod of agreement. Then, curious in spite of himself, he glances over - ]

What is it they've told you you can do?

[mightiswright]

[ that gets a chuckle out of Phoenix. ]

Nothing I haven't already been doing my entire adult life.

[ he flips the folder open to the relevant page so Edgeworth can see for himself, 'Persuasion' written down under abilities. ]

[glassinine]

[And that earns Phoenix a wry little scoff.]

I see. Well. Perhaps with this you'll actually finally be able to do it well.

[mightiswright]

( ...Thanks for the vote of confidence. )

Remind me again who it was that broke your perfect win record?

[glassinine]

[Another scoff.]

Such ancient history, Wright. But as I recall, that was the power of the truth that carried you through to victory, not your - [Ironically:] Legendarily formidable powers of persuasion.

[mightiswright]

[ 'ancient'. well if that doesn't make him feel old. ]

I recall persuading both you and the judge on more than one occasion of the truth... [ a little smirk. ] Before I even knew it.

[glassinine]

Hmph. I'd be more impressed with your swagger if I didn't remember you sweating bullets on each and every instance you tried to bluff.

[mightiswright]

Good thing I've had plenty of time to perfect my poker face. [ literally. in every way. ]

So now you know my little superpower. What's yours?

[glassinine]

[His face drops. He is quite less than pleased with this power; indeed, he looks away to keep from having to see the look on Phoenix's face.]

Apparently, I am able to cause people to suffer guilt.

[mightiswright]

[ his first thought had something to do with a joke about prosecutors and guilt, but when Edgeworth looks away as he says it, that thought fades into apprehension and slight worry. ]

What do you mean?

[glassinine]

[The line of his mouth grows more troubled.]

Anyone I lay hands on. I can induce feelings of guilt in them. Apparently.

I have not checked to see if this is indeed the case, for rather obvious reasons.

[mightiswright]

[ he can tell that Edgeworth is on, well, edge about this and he can see why. ]

... That's a heavy power to hold. ( Not exactly the kind of power I expected for becoming a 'hero'. )

[glassinine]

[A quick shake of his head, dismissive.]

I'm not going to use it, ever. Simple as that. So I shall be as I was at home: an attorney with no special characteristics.
