TEST DRIVE MEME
Considering apping into MASK OR MENACE? Want to dip your toes into the setting and get a feel of whether your character will fit into it? Or maybe you're just cruising and want to play around? Then you've come to the right place!
Pick any of the following scenarios below or feel free to make up your own, but don't be afraid to throw yourself at anyone's thread, either!
And remember to have fun!01. Your memory is hazy and you might feel increasingly frustrated or anxious, or maybe you're excited as soldiers march past, barely glimpsing you. One second you're somewhere underground, the next you're enveloped in blue light, and suddenly you find yourself directly under Florida sun's bright and burning glare. A female soldier steps toward you with a wide smile on her face and directs you to a car, ready to debrief you. You realize you are not the only one, surrounded by equally confused or eager faces... and you're all sporting a digital tattoo on your wrist.
02. Welcome to Cape Canaveral, where the smell of the ocean is in the air and locals are more than pleased to see new imPorts roaming their streets. They wave, they cheer, they ask for pictures as politely as they can. The more inhuman you look, or if you're wearing a costume, the more likely locals are to approach. Hey, enjoy the moment! The popular malt shop is offering you a free drink if you need it.
03. The technology in this world is certainly something. The cars are clearly modeled after popular 50s cars, but they hover several feet above the ground as they drive down the street. There are digital jukeboxes in restaurants, motorcycles also hover through traffic, advertisements can be seen on a digital projector on the taller buildings. Even kids on skateboards appear to drift a safe ten feet off the ground while playing!
04. Wherever you are, you can hear the loud revving of an engine, distance at first before you finally see it: a hovercar bursting around the corner, going beyond the maximum speed limit and just barely making its sharp turn. It doesn't appear to be slowing down any time soon, not with two police cars trailing it... and uh oh. Those skateboarding kids don't have much time to get out of the way as the car comes speeding down the road. You've been brought here for a reason Hero — so you better act fast.

;d
[ but he can't say he's exactly surprised. in their youth, Phoenix had always been the one running after him, trying to 'save' him and all kinds of ideas that now sounded a little... okay, pretty extreme.
so he doesn't hold it against him for being abrupt. he's not sure Edgeworth actually knows how to be any other way, and it's almost reassuring, in a world where people can flip cars over with their thoughts and cars hover in the air. ]
Edgeworth... I should have expected to see you. When did you get here?
no subject
Edgeworth moves, sits beside Wright. Most people, he'd ask permission - but with Wright, he does not feel the need.]
Just under one week ago.
[He hesitates. There's much to discuss, so much that's surpassingly important, so much that's of grave importance, but instead of any of that:]
I see you're still wearing that ragged sweatshirt. I'd truly hoped that you'd at least have gotten a new one since the last time I saw you.
no subject
[ he pulls at his sweatshirt, not looking particularly bothered or insulted though feeling slightly defensive. lawyer or pianist, california or whatever this place was called, it looked like one thing was never going to change. ]
You know, I'm not sure you're qualified to be giving out fashion advice. [ eying that cravat. ]
no subject
I don't think that "perhaps you ought to dress better than the average impoverished college student" is particularly controversial advice. You've heard the saying, of course, that the "clothes make the man."
no subject
( More like one of the only benefits. )
Besides, being overdressed is equally as bad as being underdressed. [ shots fired, Edgeworth. ]
no subject
[He adjusts his glasses.]
Besides which, at home, you were thankfully departing that foolish current job of yours. So you haven't that as an excuse.
no subject
[ Edgeworth's words give him pause though. it's true that they were close to finally uncovering all the pieces of the puzzle that had been hidden for 7 years now, after the Misham trial came underway. someone hopeful might have said that it would be the end of Phoenix's career as a poker player, but Edgeworth wasn't one to express optimism as fact. ]
...That's funny, because last I remember, I had no plans for leaving my 'foolish current job'. [ there's something very off here and he has a feeling it has everything to do with them being pulled into some strange world. ] Edgeworth. You said you've been here a week. Mind telling me what this place is?
no subject
But Wright's asked another question; Edgeworth falters slightly as he answers distractedly:]
It's...a city in Florida. In a Florida from a different dimension. All quite strange and outside the bounds of what we know of physics...Wright, what do you mean you had no plans? That was not what you said the last time I saw you.
no subject
[ and because he has a hunch, even if it shouldn't make any sense at all... it's the only reasonable conclusion he can come to, for why he would be leaving his current job and why Edgeworth would be involved. ] How long after the Misham trial?
no subject
[Realization starts to dawn.]
It has been...seven months.
no subject
I don't know how, but you're seven months ahead of me. [ he'll let his friend arrive at the right conclusion on his own, while he relaxes in his seat. ]
( In seven months, I'll be leaving my job, huh? That's a good sign. )
no subject
Finally, he speaks. He tries hard to sound breezy, casual - but it's Edgeworth, so that just means that he sounds slightly less grim than usual.]
Well. My apologies. It seems I've spoiled some surprises waiting for you in the near future.
no subject
No need to apologize. You just gave me a teaser for a show I think I'm going to enjoy. ( A show that I've been looking forward to for a long time. )
But it looks like we're both going to have to find our way home first.
no subject
The military officials here have claimed that they're working to understand the technology that has brought us here, with the implication that they will reverse the process once they have.
[A beat.]
I will confess that I do not precisely believe this claim.
no subject
I have a few thoughts of my own on that... but let's hear what you have to say first. You've been here longer than I have, after all.

[ he holds up his folder. ] Otherwise why go to all this effort? I can't imagine superpowers are a dime a dozen.
no subject
What is it they've told you you can do?
no subject
Nothing I haven't already been doing my entire adult life.
[ he flips the folder open to the relevant page so Edgeworth can see for himself, 'Persuasion' written down under abilities. ]
no subject
I see. Well. Perhaps with this you'll actually finally be able to do it well.
no subject
Remind me again who it was that broke your perfect win record?
no subject
Such ancient history, Wright. But as I recall, that was the power of the truth that carried you through to victory, not your - [Ironically:] Legendarily formidable powers of persuasion.
no subject
I recall persuading both you and the judge on more than one occasion of the truth... [ a little smirk. ] Before I even knew it.
no subject
no subject
So now you know my little superpower. What's yours?
