...Okay, honestly, it was a lot when he first figured out he has literally no refractory period because of his power so he went on like a marathon session of HOLY SHIT I CAN JUST KEEP ORGASMING FOREVER. If Jesse was stranded on a desert island... he'd bring a survival book, Doomsday Preppers, and Mr. White. For obvious reasons. But he's actually pretty interested in surviving out in the wilderness. I think he fantasizes about it more and more, as a sort of escape from the horror of his daily reality. If he's on a desert island, he can't hurt anyone anymore...

I have a fic in progress about how I think it could have gone for him once the show ended and I don't really want to spoil it. I'm just going to say that I'm less optimistic about it than most people.

My response is colored by Aaron Paul's answer to this question: "Jesse would probably die of a heart attack in a zombie apocalypse. I think he would go out guns blazing, from all the practice he’s had in video games."

For real though, I think his plan would be to basically just to protect as many of his loved ones as he can before he has to make some heroic sacrifice that he is totally prepared to make.

He doesn't blame Joel and Ellie for, like, how they reacted when they first arrived. Because he knows he'd be pretty fucked up if he came from their world. But he is Super Concerned about things like why Joel was apparently trafficking a little girl and like how many people has Ellie killed, anyway? A lot of questions he wants to ask but doesn't really want to know the answers to. Things are better for them now so that's what matters.

Spoilers: he was trafficking her for guns!! And maybe a hundred or so... but she hasn't killed anyone in several months so hey, baby steps at being a normal teenager.

Good question! Ellie's so preoccupied with everything around her and the stuff that the money Joel gets from Jesse's business buys, that she doesn't really think about it much. Jesse is rich. Jesse gave Joel a job to do, which keeps Joel preoccupied and active, and therefore relatively content. The meth part of it? She's curious, but not enough so yet to look up anything about it. Any concept of drugs like meth is vague as hell, because who has that in her world?

I think if she saw what meth does to people she'd be upset, but Ellie is loyal as fuck sooooo she'd probably try to convince herself it's not really that terrible, what Jesse is doing :/

Otherwise she just kinda dislikes that it means Joel is away, but at the same time that means babysitting hanging out with Jesse without worrying about Joel getting grumpy, so she copes. Ellie has learned that money is awesome. Thanks, Jesse!!

Explaining why he does it would be simple enough. He hasn't explained it already only because he figures it's self-evident, really. But he'd tell her that money is power in worlds like these, and meth is the fastest way for him to make money... and the more money they have, the more independent they are. Eventually they won't need to rely on anyone else in the world for the rest of their lives, and wouldn't that be nice? No one could tell them what to do.

I dunno, Jesse's craziest drunk story is probably related to that time he let his home become a literal crackhouse and he played Suicidal Lord of the Tweakers and this story probably isn't very fun at all so if you asked him he'd probably make something up. Like filling a swimming pool with bubble bath and diving into it from a second story window. See, that's a fun story you can tell people without making them uncomfortable.

Jesse has nothing left to say to his parents. "I bought the place," was good enough for him.

He desperately wants everyone who's dead because of him to not be dead anymore. He would trade his own life for that, no hesitation.

joel as a teenager. well, there's hardly anything about joel's past in the game. there are zero photos of his parents or any indication anywhere in his house in the beginning of the game as to who his parents are/where they fit into his life. so from that, i glean that he didn't have a good relationship with his parents, and in fact possibly even cut them out of his life. so from that i headcanon that joel and his younger brother, tommy (who is about 6-7 years younger than joel) were raised by their mother, who was a single parent and divorced joel's father when joel was a little boy.

his mother worked two or three jobs to make ends meet, so joel was often left in charge of tommy. he was a pretty quiet teenager, had some anger issues, didn't talk a whole lot about his feelings, was pretty introverted. he was good at subjects like woodwork, art and music in school and was pretty decent at maths. average at everything else, though. he spent a lot of his spare time escaping in music when he wasn't playing sport; he had a small group of friends at school that he played music in a band with. he had fantasies of being a singer and being famous and a professional musician, but that changed along with any hopes of getting into college when his girlfriend became pregnant when joel was 17. he ended up marrying his girlfriend when he was about 18, divorced her by the time he was about 21. he was still looking out for tommy a lot, too, when sarah was born.

he was basically the kind of teenager that felt pretty resentful towards his father, had some resentment towards his mother with how she was never home, wanted to go out and do normal teenage things but often had to watch tommy. he bottled a lot of things up, could get pretty moody, kind of had to be the "man" of the family from a young age. but he was also pretty laid back for the most part, was kind of shy around girls, and would do anything for people he cared for.

ugh i still feel like i'm trying to work out this part of joel because i have to completely headcanon it based on the tiny snippets we get here and there about his past.

He chuckled and put it on his desk in the nurse's office at school, right next to his nametag, so that when kids come into the office they can groan and roll their eyes. Lame adults. Seriously, Jesse appreciates personal gifts like those. It shows someone actually thought about him, which is rare.

Jesse is fairly certain that Skye figuring his shit out = Skye immediately pistol-whipping his ass. Like, she is so thorough and so reactive that if she ever found out anything concrete, he would know. Anything up to that point is something she can't prove, and therefore something he can talk his way out of. If it was bad enough that she wasn't buying his story, he'd break up with her and pray that her interest in his activities would end there. I can't see a situation where he would harm her, even if she pulled a gun on him. He'd surrender and say nothing and wait for it to play out through legal channels (which he trusts Saul to handle).

How has being in this world altered Kotetsu's morals?

ANYWAY that's an interesting question, because the answer is probably somewhere along the lines of "define morals". Because his core, fundamental values haven't changed any. He still believes in all the same stuff about what's right and wrong and about people should take care of each other and MURDER IS BAD!!!111 etc. But on the other and....he's sloooooooowly inching away from the strictly Lawful part of his Lawful Good.

Like an example of this is his feelings about vigilantism and registration. Back on his first day he got in an argument with someone about vigilantism being unnecessary, but at the same time he was also kind of like 'weeeeeeeeellll, as long as they don't actually break any other laws, I guess it's sort of ok to be an unsettled hero' bc he didn't like how heavy-handed the registration system was. But over the course of his stay in the game, he has lost...pretty much all faith in this government, and has heavily considered revoking his own registration more than once. At this point, literally the only thing holding him back is that he doesn't want the government to get in his way while doing his job. He's not sure his pride is worth the lives he might be putting on the line if he doesn't do things legit. But even that is sort of conditional--I was talking on plurk about how if the government ever did something like try to limit resurrections to only the registered, he would literally lose his shit and flounce like the wind. Right now, he's very frustrated with the government and thinks they're incompetent and callous and generally shitty, but for the most part not actively malicious, which is why he tolerates their shit, despite his growling and bitching. They've shown hints of what may be to come tho, what with the voting and the housing and that one fucked up paintball game, so Kotetsu isn't exactly unprepared for them to cross the line. Which would probably be the biggest change, I think, from canon. He does not have full faith in the system anymore--at least, not this system. It also doesn't help that he came from DIRECTLY after discovering the founder of Hero TV is actually a piece of murderous shit that's been staging crimes for twenty years, and the Heropa military is so shady about things sometimes that he worries about it.

BUT YEAH tldr, he's...growing more lax in how much he cares about things being done 100% legally as long as they're the right thing to do. Much more willing to compromise on that kind of thing if no one's going to get hurt in the process/would actually benefit from getting around the red tape.


What about Jesse? Has anything changed in the way he sees the world now that he has the powers he does?

He might be getting more empathetic, if that's possible. He literally feels the suffering of others now, so that ends up making him a little gentler in his day-to-day dealings with people. He's very worried all the time about how everyone's doing and he kind of feels like it's his responsibility to make things better, because he has that power. He never really has a break from that. Like his first instinct now is to touch someone and give them a little boost, because even if they're not injured, he can still ease their fatigue or whatever.

This has also led to him getting very frustrated with people who set out to actively hurt others. Sadism was never his thing, but now it's especially offensive to him. How can anyone just go out and hurt people? Don't they know what people are going through already?

...This is hilarious because he's literally poisoning thousands of people every day. But there's some dissonance there, because he still tells himself that they're choosing to use the meth. All he does is provide the stuff. He'll feel a lot more conflicted if the business itself gives rise to violence (that he's aware of, because he is quite shielded from the goings-on of Penguin's side of the business).

The specific execution of his power does ease his self-hatred a bit, too. It's fitting that he suffers. It's like passive self-flagellation. The more he heals people and the more pain he's in, the more he chips away at his past sins. Not that healing a paper cut can ever make up for murdering an innocent man, but maybe eventually he can balance the scales enough to justify the fact that he's still breathing. Because at least he serves a good purpose, right?

Marco's been laying low since his paranoia got the better of him and he's not trying attract attention. But now he's 85% sure none of alien parasites are here, he's gonna relax and try to hang around kids his age. He'll probably hang around the mall like a real 90s kid.

Oh man, Jesse is a total 90s kid. He was born in '84 so like... he came of age in the 90s and all his pop culture influences come from those days. Not much of a reader though (sorry, Animorphs). But you can bet he was that kid wearing the embarrassing Looney Tunes hip-hop shirt and skater shorts and backwards cap, basically idolizing the Ninja Turtles and having like a way major crush on the Pink Ranger. Radical!!! And then he got a little older and it was all Eminem and Limp Bizkit and Kid Rock. Pretty much just check out his band and you can hear the 90s. So intensely. And yeah he was a mallrat and skateboarding all over the place and hitting on goth chicks because he was really into their fishnet stockings and hey, yeah, he likes Stabbing Westward alright and he'll listen to your mixtape. Also attended many warehouse raves in an E-fueled haze, which is the best way to spend your Saturday nights when you're a libidinous young man.

In a way, Jesse never quite left the 90s. Bless him. He is keeping that wangster dream alive. Look at his stupid tribal tattoo. Glorious.
